Chronic diseases/Other Illness: Addiction to not only alcohol but to drugs runs highly in his birth family, though he doesn't know it. However he does have his own past addiction to heroin that he kicked several years years. It is always there pressing him to return to it, but so far Ash hasn't. As for medical problems, Ash suffers from lupus...though he's never been officially diagnosed. The last time he went in to the hospital because he was sick it was diagnosed as mono. Now he believes that it is simply the mono that he had still kicking his butt.

Allergies: Cats, bees (though he still finds them fascinating) Shell fish

Smokes: no- quit when he was 17

Drinks: Rarely--maybe about four times a year (and rarely gets drunk)

Illegal Drugs: Heroin....though he hasn't used in years. It has been calling him back though since the death of Agnes.

Tattoos: His right shoulder is marked with a large tribal tattoo that covers the entire shoulder, with some of it nearly reaching his elbow. He also has another tattoo of a symbol marking him for demon on the palm of his hand.
Usually Wears: jeans, teeshirts, button down shirts,  a fidget/spinner rings, his dog tags, tennis shoes, his cammies when he's on the base. (He also has a dress uniform that wears when he needs to do special occassions on the base)
Never Wears: dress coats, dress shoes, ties (He doesn't even know how to tie one)

Personality

He is extremely confused about who he is. He knows who Ash is, a cocky, self assured, always willing to take care of himself and able to land on his feet. But as a man he doesn't know himself due to his fixation that he needs to know who his family is. Prone to having outbursts, Ash attempts to control them by segregating himself from others when angry. He listens to loud rock in attempts to calm his anger, if that doesn't work it's running (And he'll run til he pukes)

His students love him due to his outlook on classes. Ash is protective of them, even having gone as far as visiting the homes of two students stating that they were his favorites shortly after they were busted for fighting. Due to that they are just as protective of him. He has a tendency to buck the system, even going as far as telling a student that, 'if he was going to use drugs at least be smart about it.'

Rehka has labeled him an emotional train wreck waiting to happen. However in a questionnaire asked while in drug rehab, Ash has labeled himself the Beast (not the handsome prince version) from Beauty and the Beast. He is a fighter who does anything to survive. He has a problem of trusting people due to the fact that those he does trust tend to leave him or have something bad happen to them. It's part of the reason why he has no connection with his son, Dillon. However he also has a way of finding himself in the middle of things he can't control. His students bring him problems that doesn't know how to deal with and he does his best but isn't sure if he can guide them.

Since the death of Agnes, Ash has felt a little lost. If it wasn't for his students Ash would have bailed from Pleasant Port. Well he's not so sure about that part...after all bailing is something other people do on him and he would never do it to some one he cares about. 

Personal History

The only thing Ash knows about his past is that his father was named Vincent. His mother he believed was named Diana but isn't sure. As for the last name of Ashmore, well it's a last name ain't it? Ash was only a baby when he was taken from his parents, one a crack addict who lovingly passed her addiction to him as a baby and the other an abuser. He was placed in the system, along with his four year old sister, where he was taken from one family to another and then to another.

Then he landed in San Diego as the foster son to Gretchen and Lincoln Walken. While he and the other eight other foster children lived in the house were free to do anything they wanted, Ash began planning what it would be like to live on his own. To be free of the burden of school and having to deal with the dead beat foster parents.

Of course that all went down hill after Ash was busted for fighting and possession of drugs (They were found on his coat on his girlfriend at the time). While he attempted to do the right thing and take responsibility for them, even though they weren't his, a cop saw through his actions and while he applauded the boy he refused to write him for the drugs.

Forced to do some volunteer work as a his restitution, Ash worked as an assistant at a local day care. The cop that had busted him still checked in on him occasionally and Ash would sleep on his couch more then he would in his own bed back at the Walkens. In fact, Ash was working towards being emancipated with the Officer Chang's help.

Still he had a few fights here and there. Some of which Chang didn't report to the social worker and other's he handed personally. The cop defended him once in when Ash got involved in a high school fight club against some college kids. It was then that Chang agreed to assist Ash learn some martial arts, if the boy wanted. Ash quickly agreed.

Close with Chang's family, Ash was with them when they got the notice of the robbery shooting. Loosing Chang in a shooting, Ash broke apart. Falling part, Ash was at his funeral before he began fighting again. The fighting led to other things, like minor drug usage, lying and anything else he could do to fight the loss of his only good force in his life.

It was during this massive destruction phase that Ash met Rehka and slept with her occasionally. Finding her pregnant with his son, Ash wasn't in the best condition to have a son around him. However the news sobered him up and Ash attempted to clean up his act. He went into rehab, and worked on trying to clean up somethings. The fights died down and he only used drugs reduced to only as recreational.

However nothing was able to fix the route problem of his life. His foster family. Though only one year from being get out of the system, Ash couldn't wait and after stealing several of the Social Services checks, there were sent for taking care of him, Ash forged his foster father's name and got the money. With it he got his bike and was gone with some clothes on his back.

The rest of the money went to food, gas and clothes when needed it but the only time that Ash returned to San Diego was for the birth of his son Dillon. Offering Rehka marriage, Ash was rejected due to his only source of income being playing pool. A fight rang out and Ash left the hospital before being tossed out by security.

He then traveled to Pleasant Port. Getting a room at the hotel, he planned to only stay for a few days. But then the few days turned into weeks and weeks soon turned to months. What ever money he had was drying up and people were learning to not play pool against him. Things were getting tight and he was getting nervously drawn back to drugs.

And then it was because of a woman named Agnes who got him back into the swing of life. Perhaps he reminded her of her own children, Ash never really found out. She took him for coffee several times and got him help getting his GED, into the Army Reserves (something he and Chang had talked about when he was in high school) and then into college. It was because of her that Ash stopped being in a rut and began living again.

It was her that got him into teaching after originally taking a career in history. As classes went on, Ash barely had a chance to see Agnes but when they could they met for coffee. By 2007, Ash became a student teacher at the high school where his first shock against some of the other teachers was to allow his students to listen to blues and then rap. While he was able to clarify it as a way of learning how people speak of their lives, their history in music, Ash was warned not to pull a stunt like that again.

The warning didn't hold him back. The Trojan war in his Global History was back in the center of gossip again when he allowed his students to build their own Trojan horses out side. American Revolution was taken by a field trip out of town to go to see one of the best reenactments. World War II and Holocaust was covered in watching Schindler's List and having a test taken on it. Civil war was touched by having a night lock in at the school were the cops were called in (Ash had forgotten to get permission to have him and his students stay in the school). If the cops hadn't been called in then the class would have been forced to find their way through the dark school as if it was pat of the underground railroad.

It was the lock in that got Ash into serving as the detention teacher for a week. There he too was placed under scrutiny. While he served his time, and earned the respect of the 'bad kids' by keeping two from being expelled and smoothing the waters between them by stating that they were his favorite students, Ash's students have the highest grades when it comes to history and he rarely has a student the decides to skip.

Agnes death has thrown him a little for a loop. He's still close to his students but has decided against trying to reconnect with his son or Rehka. It was something they were working on before he went off to college.

There's a nice 2002 black Kawasaki motorcycle that he simply adores. He got it by forging his foster father's name on the checks that were given out to take care of him before leaving the house. Ash saw them as his money and he deserved it more then the store for beer and pizza.

Lives With: no one..though if a student needs a place to stay for some reason, they know to get a hold of him.

Lives in town since:  2003- He moved there about four months after his son was born. Next to San Diego, it is the closest thing he calls home. The interesting thing is when he first moved to Pleasant Port he lived in the hotel for several months before getting an apartment.
