Services
Pleasant Port's branch of the American Red Cross stands ready to carry out any of it's foundations services locally. These include: disaster relief, food and comfort for the needy, assisting and keeping connected military personnel and their families, safety and health-related educational programs, collecting and providing blood and blood products, and gathering food and materials for international relief efforts. Staffed almost solely by volunteers, the office is open six days a week.
The complex encompasses admin offices, a fully-functional blood lab, a Situation Room to coordinate disaster relief, counseling offices, a large donated-goods holding/sorting area, a communications room with phones and computers, classrooms, and a large conference room.
There are also two large box trucks for moving goods to needy places.
Brief History
The Red Cross has maintained a branch in Pleasant Port since 1915. The current building was erected in 2004. They have been instrumental in helping local families in need during numerous blizzards and floods---the most recent of which was Feb. 2007.
