As far as appearances go, Micah is your regular goody-two shoes. While he’s tall, he’s also rather scrawny and lacking any sign of muscle. Similarly, he’s always had pale skin that burns easily in the sun. The one thing that he’s always cared about is his hair. Either light or dark brown, depending on the amount of gel in it, Micah takes very good care of his hair. Usually kept short, he obsessively sculpts it into numerous styles depending on his mood. He can spend hours fixing his hair making sure that every strand is in place.

Micah is also extremely fussy about his clothes. When he’s out he refuses to wear anything that is torn, stained, worn, faded or just plain old. He may be the only person to iron every single article of clothing he owns, but he finds it necessary to prevent wrinkles and form creases in the right places. While his look may be one that is seen on many 20-something males, on him it is polished to perfection.

Personality

Micah is a very thorough person. He pays attention to even the smallest details and as a result hates it when anything is out of place. Possibly as the result of a lack of order in his life, although more likely the result of the way he was raised, Micah has developed an obsessive need to keep everything around him orderly and in its place. It is because of Micah’s obsession for order and perfection combined with his clean cut image that causes him to have a goody-two shoes, boy next door image.

Micah is a thoughtful guy who takes the pros and cons of almost every situation into consideration before he acts. He hates to do anything that could offend someone else and as a result is often edgy. He is able to be more relaxed around his friends and people he has known for a great period of time, but this is only because he’s become accustomed to them and doesn’t feel the need to worry as much. When around strangers or people he doesn’t really know, Micah can easily become highly agitated.

Micah has an addictive personality, on that has gotten into a great amount of trouble. He fears change and is well set in his ways, from simple things like how he starts off his day to how many pictures he has to take in the course of a day. There isn’t a day that passes when he doesn’t want to get high, but he suppresses these urges by focusing himself on other addictions; his art, photography, even something as simple as a good book or a movie marathon. While he has a good portfolio of his work, his obsession with perfection prevents him from considering any piece he has painted from being finished.

Following his car accident, there have been slight changes in Micah’s personality. While it has faded a bit with time and therapy, Micah is still plagued by pain caused by his injuries. He struggles between dealing with that and fearing a relapse in his substance abuse as the result of taking pain killers. As the result of the trauma he received to his brain, Micah struggles in what are to him simple things. His short term memory fails him more often than it used to and he often finds himself struggling to remember specific words. He is prone to headaches and dizziness and while he is frequently tired, he struggles in falling asleep. His dreams are haunted by fragmented memories of the accident and he usually wakes up in more pain than he was in when he went to sleep. Micah has difficulties in collecting his thoughts, often feeling as if he’s rather scatter-brained, and his is usually unable to stay focused on something for long periods of time, something which he has yet to fully come to terms with. His failures to do the things he could do before the accident and to be the person that he was causes him to be irritable. While he snaps on occasion, the realization of the hostility of his words and actions usually causes him to quickly calm down and apologize both for his actions and his failures profusely.

Personal History

His Timeline

Born in 1982, Micah was the youngest child of the stereotypical nuclear, American family; father, mother, two kids (one boy and one girl), and a dog aptly named Spot. Micah was quick to fill the role of mamma’s boy and while he struggled to gain his father’s approval, in the end he was usually deemed to not be masculine enough. Needless to say, it didn’t take him long to realize that the all-American dream that his parents lived in was not what he wanted for himself. By the time he was 10, Micah was using the good kid image that he had been labeled with as a front to hide his less than stellar choices.

In addition to being unable to obtain his father’s approval, Micah was also unable to cope with his mother’s obsession for perfection. By the age of 14 Micah was drinking; stealing alcohol from the older members of his family at every opportunity. Soon after the drinking started he began experimenting with drugs. When he was sixteen, Micah tried cocaine for the first time. He was hooked instantly and while he still maintained the good boy image, keeping those he cared about ignorant of his activities, Micah began spending a large amount of his spare time under the influence of something. By the time he was in college, Micah was addicted to both cocaine and heroin and had a heavy dependency on alcohol.

This lifestyle took its toll on Micah, and while he was able to keep his secret his life did begin a downward spiral. After losing several jobs, Micah began selling drugs on the side to pay for his habit. At the end of his second year, he dropped out of college, to the great disappointment of his parents.

Micah’s world finally came crashing down on him when, one day two weeks before his 21st birthday, Micah overdosed on a mix of heroin and cocaine. His mother found him at the foot of the stairs, and as a result has spent a good amount of time refusing to believe the truth about the incident, choosing instead to claim that he just fell down the stairs. As soon as he recovered enough to be released from the hospital, Micah was sent to a ninety day rehab program. While he was gone, Micah’s parents claimed that he was visiting distant family in Europe, a lie that he was willing to go along with once he returned to Pleasant Port.

Micah will always claim that the hardest day of his life was the first day back in Pleasant Port after rehab. It was July and at the time he had wanted nothing more than to escape from his family and give into his craving for drugs. On his way to his drug dealer’s house, Micah ran into Cassie Davis. He got so caught up in trying to explain to her his sudden disappearance without actually explaining his disappearance, that Micah almost forgot about his desire to get high.

Slowly, Micah began to get his life together. He moved in with his sister for a time and got a job at the Photo Studio. Whenever he wanted to use, he threw himself into other activities as a distraction, focusing mostly on his photography and friends. In 2004, Cassie told him that she was looking to move out and Micah eagerly agreed to get a place with her and some other friends. Since his return to Pleasant Port, his relationship with his parents has been strained. They refuse to talk about his addiction, causing Micah to no longer believe that the relationship can be salvaged.

On New Year’s Eve, 2006, Micah confessed his love to Cassie and the two began dating. While Micah’s extremely nervous about the relationship – she’s the first woman he’s been with since sobering up and it’s the first real relationship he’s ever been in – he is extremely devoted to her and hopes to spend the rest of his life with her. At a party celebrating Cassie’s birthday Fletcher Montgomery flirted with her, going so far as to give Cassie a ring. Micah was really bothered by this, and in an attempt to not ruin the party simply left. While driving around town later that night, Micah got into a car accident with Robert Gray. While Robert walked away with only minor injuries Micah was seriously injured. He spent a couple weeks in the hospital and in the months to followed struggled to pull his life back together.

There were three major points in the 8 months that followed his accident that really helped in this. First was when Cassie kissed Fletcher after a night of pool and drinks. While Micah was upset, he blamed himself and his inability to take care of her and satisfy her more than he actually blamed her. Following the kiss, Micah struggled to be the guy that he had been before hand even more. The second event was when Micah finally convinced Cassie to move into a smaller place with him. The two moved out of their home on Oxford Drive and into an apartment on Farmer's Avenue. This smaller environment gave Micah less to try to look after in his desire to become himself again. While he still needs help and isn't able to make the elaborate meals that he cooked before the accident, in their apartment Micah is able to take care of most of the cleaning and regularly cook for him and Cassie. The final event was the birth of Dana Jenkins' twins. While his baby mode had been quickly curbed after his accident, the actual presence of the twins brought back the fever in full mode. As Uncle Micah, Micah was forced to focus not on himself and his own shortcomings, but rather on the twins.

On October 27, 2007, Micah bought an engagement ring for Cassie and asked her mother for permission to marry her. Linda was thrilled and quickly approved. However, before Micah could propose, he found out about his mother's death. Shortly after his mother's funeral Dana and her boyfriend decided to move out of town.  When Dana's mother heard, she decided to sell the Studio; she was no longer running it, and her children weren't interested in doing so.  Micah eagerly took the opportunity to buy the Studio.  He approached his father about funding it, but when Jeffrey showed reluctance in giving him the money he made up a full business proposal for his father, using everything that he could remember from the few business courses he had taken when he was in school.  Jeffrey agreed to back Micah in his business venture, but only as a silent partner.  The two took ownership of the Studio in December.  For awhile, Micah became a bit of a work-a-holic, however since proposing to Cassie he's become rather absorbed with planning the wedding and dealing with the stress of dealing with the numerous suggestions of family and friends.

Facts

Micah has a hair complex.
Micah’s favourite photographers are Thomas Barbey, David Lachapelle, Jane Fulton and Sophie Calle. He hopes to name his future children after them.
He can spend hours using Photoshop with his favourite photo of Cassie, only to decide that the unaltered shot was better.
The only time Micah swears is when he’s under the influence of Cassie. In addition to not using foul language, he prefers to use ‘phallus’ and ‘poontang’ in reference to sexual organs along with completely asexual euphemisms.
If he ever needs to leave a message for Cassie he leaves her a post-it notes. Usually, knowing her ability to ignore the first one, he’ll leave several, nagging at her to do a specific task. Since they began dating, he’s started writing notes that say things like “Gone to work, be home later. Love you” and leaving them on her forehead while she sleeps.
For awhile inability to do the same things that he was able to do before his accident led to him feeling like he wasn't Micah anymore, but rather someone inhabiting Micah's body.
Usually, Micah likes to listen to a mix of adult contemporary, folk, indie, alternative rock, with a bit of country. But when he's stoned, he's all about the techno.
Micah is a firm supporter of the Democratic party.

Family

Cassandra Davis

Cassie’s Micah’s best friend. He’s known her since he was 17 and she’s the one person in his life who he'll tell anything. Micah fell in love with her while in college, although it wasn't until the end of 2006 that they began dating.  He considers Cassie to be the reason that he was able to stay sober following rehab, and believes she saved his life following his car accident. Micah is completely devoted to her, to the point that he sees her mistakes in the relationship (like when she kissed Fletcher) as a result of his inability to be the kind of boyfriend he thinks she deserves. Micah proposed Christmas Eve, 2007.

Jeffrey Lewis Micah and his father ave a distant relationship as Micah doesn’t really know how to relate to his father. They talk as little as possible. Since his accident, Micah has had to turn to his father for financial support. The two entered business together when they bought the Photo Studio.
Naomi Lewis Micah and his mother were really close when he was younger, but have grown distant as he’s gotten older. Micah turned to drugs as an inability to deal with his mother’s problems. After his accident, Naomi resumed dotting on her son, coming over to his home a couple times a week to cook and clean for him and his roommates. Once Micah was able to take care of himself again she backed off a bit. However, she insisted that the entire family got together for dinner once a week. On October 27, 2007, Naomi was murdered, devastating Micah. He feels guilty for all the time that he was less than the perfect son.
Adina Lewis Micah and his sister have a unique relationship.  They usually get along, and Micah is even envious about her relationship with their father, but he doesn't think that she really gets him or his life. Until he told Cassie she was the only person in his family that he was able to talk to about his addiction, although he still doesn’t really feel like she fully understands. He thinks she’ll do whatever she can to piss off their parents, even if it means compromising his sobriety.
Nicholas and Vanessa Lewis

Micah never knew his paternal grandfather as he passed away in 1975, and he doesn't have much of a relationship with his paternal grandmother.  She dotted on her grandson when he was younger, but her Alzheimer's diagnosis curbed that. For less than a year she lived with Micah's family, but his father quickly decided that taking care of her was too difficult and moved her into a nursing home. She's still alive but she doesn't remember Micah so he rarely visits.

The Marchais

Micah's aunt, Amber, lives in Belleville with her husband, George.  He sees her on the occasional holiday and gets periodic updates on her from his parents. Amber and George have one son, Nicholas, who also lives in Belleville with his wife, Diana, and their two children, Terry and Vanessa.

The Allens

Micah's aunt, Sara, lives in Stanton Hills with her husband, Edward. He sees her on the occasional holiday and gets periodic updates on her from his parents.

The Rosenstones

Most of the maternal side of Micah's family live in Belleville.  Micah visits his grandparents, Niel and Sidney, sporadically, and gets phone calls from them with more regularity than he likes  He only hears from his uncle, Craig, and Craig's wife, Cecilia, when he visits his grandparents.

Brad Rosenstone Micah isn't really close with his cousin.  When Brad first moved to Pleasant Port for school he tried to show him around and be a friend for him - at the insistence of his mother - but the two never really struck up a friendship.
Linda Davis Micah is completely terrified of his future-mother-in-law. He considers her to be the third scarriest woman on the face of the earth, directly behind his Cassie and his sister.  He will never let her touch his hair again, following her deciding to dye his hair black.  However, he doesn't think that Linda is as bad as Cassie claims, and often goes to her in an attempt to figure out what to do in regards to different situations he ends up in with Cassie.
Jackson O'Neal Micah is even more terrified of his future-father-in-law than he is of Linda.  He has only spoken to the man once, and stuttered the entire time.  He is even scared to mention him to Cassie, as he's never reall sure of how she's going to react.
The Davises Micah really likes Cassie's maternal grandparents, Donna and Joey.  He thinks They're both nice and approachable, the kind of grandparents that he always wished that he had had.

Other Characters Talk About Micah

Travis Collins: "He's a lot of fun to work with and hang out with. He gives me tips on photography and and helps me feel comfortable with myself. I'm sorry we lost contact when we were younger, but I'm glad we met back up."

Cassandra Davis: "Ah, where to start? When I first came to Pleasant Port, Micah was the reason I didn't end up hating the move so much. And now that I'm free to leave if I choose, he's the reason that I enjoy staying. He's a little obsessive compulsive, can drive anyone nuts with the point of a camera, and will openly make fun of someone's bad taste. But all of those things are what make me adore him to pieces."

Dana Jenkins: "Half the time I don't know why Micah puts up with me. I probably couldn't go a day without bugging him for advice or bumming a smoke. He really is a life saver when you need it."

Fletcher Montgomery: "I'm not even wasting my breath. He had better just make sure he treats Cassie right, because she deserves the best. If she doesn't get it, the creep will have me to answer to."
