Name Meaning

Lelia-Variant of LAELIA; Feminine form of Laelius, a Roman family name of unknown meaning. This is also the name of a type of flower, an orchid found in Mexico and Central America.

Rosetta-Italian diminutive of Rosa, Latinate form of ROSE. It was first used in the 19th century.

McKinnon-Gaelic for 'son of the beloved one' or Anglican for 'fair born'

Personality

Quiet as far as children go because of her being deaf, but very bright and observant.  She is very strong-willed and independent, and will sometimes shy away from help although she needs it.  But she has come to terms with her disability---far better than her parents have---to be a cheerful and friendly child once she is comfortable with her surroundings.  She can get frustrated at times, but usually can work through problems. Like most deaf individuals, it is important to her to make a personal connection to those around her.  Loves to share everything.

Personal History

Born in 1998 in Savannah, GA, Leila was diagnosed as being hearing impaired very early by unknown causes.  Her parents placed her in special schools and got her the best tutors possible to help her learn to cope with her disability. They devoted themselves to being the parents of a deaf child and did whatever was necessary for her well-being.  She has always had the support of both sides of her family (all the grandparents, aunts, and uncles can also sign).  She moved to Pleasant Port in 2003.
