Personal History

• Born Karen Forsyth to Courtney and James in Pleasant Port
• Met her husband, Alan, shortly after high school while working in a real estate office. The two were quickly taken with each other and married soon after. They moved to New Haven in order to give Alan more opportunities in the work force
• The relationship went sour quickly after the marriage. Both knew that they weren’t right for each other. Despite this, they both insisted on sticking out; neither believed in divorce
• They had the two planned children, one boy and one girl, early on in their marriage. Later, they would have a third child, completely by accident; Darren (born 1973), Ronda (born 1975), and Aaron (1987)
• Aaron’s birth disrupted the already rocky marriage. The family had been able to maintain what Karen and Alan thought was the proper family while raising their first two children, with Alan working and Karen staying at home to care for the children. However, with the third child, and the pressing financial needs of two teenagers things became more and more difficult for the family
• Eventually Karen was forced to go back to work, something that she rather resented her husband for. To her, this man who she no longer loved had failed to follow through with the vows that he had made. He was unable to provide and care for her. Unable to accept this, Karen ridiculed her husband mercilessly about it, causing their fighting to get worse
• In 1990, Karen's mother died.  Shortly after, Karen's father moved into a nursing home
• In 1996 Alan had finally had enough. His debt had grown to the point that he was beginning to consider declaring bankruptcy, and unbeknownst to Karen he had been struggling with depression for a number of years. Rather than talk to her about it, he simply bottled it up inside, determined that she would consider it to be yet another one of his failures as a man and husband. Finally reaching the end of his rope, Alan committed suicide in early May
• Alan’s death shocked Karen and left her in ruin. While she struggled to put her life back together, both financially and emotionally, she was unable to do so. She was forced to declare bankruptcy in order to deal the debt that her husband had left her. In addition to this, she was haunted by the memory of her husband every where she went. Her children all blamed her for the death of their father
• In 1998, unable to deal with the city anymore Karen moved back to Pleasant Port - Darren and Ronda stayed behind, maintaining minimal contact with their mother. Because of his age, Aaron came with him
• In 2006 Aaron moved out of his mother’s home and back to New Haven for school
• In May 2008 while at the Leisure Club for work Karen met Jeffrey Lewis. The two hit it off, and began dating shortly after.
