Josh stands just under 6' 2" and weighs 185lbs. He's very fit and toned and takes very good care of his body and appearance, something that started back when he played HS football. He works out three days a week and runs two. Normally, his person is well-groomed although he's not totally obsessed with it. He doesn't mind missing a day of shaving and will sometimes keep a little facial hair around. As a lawyer, he dresses in a lot of suits and ties and he's as comfortable in them as he is in jeans and a T-shirt. To him his appearance is a balancing act between the professional Josh and his laid-back nature. When not working, he likes to wear slouchy clothes and dress down---almost to the point where folks don't recognize him. In social settings, he will dress for the occassion (usually with the advice of Luciana and Lelia).

Josh likes to keep his dark brown hair "neat" and won't let it grow out too much, nor does he like it too terribly short. Sometimes he will spike his hair because Lelia likes it that way. Other than that, he doesn't like a lot of hair on his body (nor does Luciana), so he tries to keep his skin clear and soft. He wears contacts usually, but has glasses he will wear at home or at work from time-to-time (he likes the type that darken outside). One of his favorite features are his soft, brown eyes.

Josh has had a difficult time dropping his Deep-South Georgia drawl. During his college days, he had to develop a clearer style of speech and typically will converse this way in everyday interaction (it also helps Lelia with her lip-reading). However, when he's excited or angry the more natural speaking style will emerge. His drawl, coupled with Luciana's Brooklyn accent, make for some interesting conversations between the two.

He has no tattoos, but does have a scar from his appendectomy and another on the back of his left hand due to a farming accident at age 12.

Personality

Josh is generally a charming and very laid-back individual---calm, gentle, and easy-going. He has patience in abundance and is hard to rile or become easily excited. Yet, he is also a very compassionate and caring person and isn't shy about reaching out to help those in need. He's very friendly and tolerant of others and usually makes friends and acquaintances very easy. At a young age, he was taught to be courteous and polite...virtues he still hold onto today. Having fun and being silly at times are his primary escapes from the toils of life. He is a very confident person (but not cocky) in all the aspects of his life, whether it's standing before a judge in the courtroom or at home making decisions for his family.

He is wholly devoted to his roles as a husband and father and spends nearly all his free time with his family. Much of his happiness and well-being is inevitably linked to that of Luciana and his kids. Having said that, most of his fears and worries are also tied to them, but they are the ultimate source of joy and satisfaction in his life. He simply cannot see a life without them ("They are who I am...my heart and soul"). Being a romantic at heart, he is very much in love with his wife and is extremely affectionate and understanding of her. Luciana is his light, his inspiration, and his soulmate. ("I'm now a hopeful romantic.")  Josh is also completely dedicated to his children, and is perfectly happy lavishing love on them, as well as ensuring they have the best of everything.

Professionally, Josh is a capable, dedicated, hardworking attorney. He prefers to work through problems instead of setting them aside or letting them fester. He doesn't like a lot of drama, and moves quickly to handle a problem or situation to return to some sort of normalcy. When he can't, he tends to keep it to himself (except for Luciana, he can't hide anything from her). He's not afraid to change things if need be, values the opinions of others (especially his wife's), but will also hold on tenaciously to things he feels strongly about.

Much of Josh's personality was born from the blue-collar, solid Christian family typical of rural Georgia. He believes in hard-work, fairness, taking responsibility, and treating others with respect and consideration. Josh holds honesty and integrity in the highest regards. Ideals such as patriotism, loyalty, and pride were passed to him early in life.

It wasn't until he left for college that he realized that he didn't completely share the ultra-conservative characteristics of the vast majority of the people he knew. He fully believes in the right of individuals to choose their own path in life, even if it conflicts with traditions and accepted norms. He doesn't like to judge people on anything less than their character, but will often catch himself being opinionated at times.

Josh is a very humble man and is fully aware he's lucky to have an amazing woman as a wife and two wonderful children, as well as a satisfying career and comfortable lifestyle.

Personal History

The youngest child of Tom and Betty Lou McKinnon, Josh was born in the city of Milledgeville, GA and raised in the nearby small town of Kite. The McKinnons were a tight-knit farming family in the heart of a God-fearing, law-abiding county. Josh's father was the fourth generation of patriarchs that had owned and toiled the rather large multi cash-crop farm. Betty Lou was the typical Southern belle of her time, a very intelligent and socially-conscience woman that spoiled her children at every turn. Josh was the typical Southern country boy---he worked with his Dad, hunted, fished, drove his 4x4 through the mud---and played football. Football was a second religion in the area, and the younger McKinnon started at age 6. He would ultimately make starting quarterback at Robert E. Lee High School.

As a kid, Josh rarely got into trouble---usually because he was involved in so many activities, but also he had a knack of talking himself out of it.  He was mild-mannered, eager to please, and not at all a difficult person.  Neither he nor his sister were simply given the things they had.  Each had to work and show responsibility to get the things they wanted.  He was always busy in some organization or group---Boy Scouts, FFA, church youth groups, and the like.  He also took up the guitar at age 7 and by the time he was a senior in high school, he was playing in a teenage cover band called Long Odds.

But life wasn't all about the outdoors and sports. Josh's mother was very keen on their education, and he finished high school at the top of his class academically.  His parents broke tradition and insisted Josh do something NOT related to the area of agriculture.  Always civic-minded, he chose a career in law in hopes of one day working as a solicitor or maybe going into politics.  He graduated magna cum laude at UGA in 1994 and immediately was accepted at several laws schools.  His father had hoped he would go to nearby Emory University, but Josh chose the prestige Columbia U. instead.  It was then that he began to exhibit a break from the deep-rooted belief systems of his parents.

The sneaky wildness he displayed in college was gone by the time he got to law school.  The course load demanded so much of his time, and Josh spent most of his free time playing guitar and singing in local bars and coffeehouses.  In his second year, he attended a seminar on the legalities involving the educational system on campus and meet Luciana Moretti, a fellow grad student and teacher.  They were from very different worlds, but discovered they were kindred spirits nevertheless. She immediately captivated him with her looks, intelligence, and personality.  He invited her for coffee at a place he was playing that night, and sang several love songs to her.  She didn't immediately return his affections, however..but Josh was persistent in his charms and they became friends.

Later that year, Luce sprained her ankle on the library steps and Josh carried her six blocks to the ER...which finally won her over.  In 1996, they had become inseperable and moved into a studio apartment in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn.  Luciana graduated that same year, while he interned with the NYC Ports Authority.  While extremely busy with their professional lifes, the experience only tempered their love for one another.  Josh proposed to her on New Years' Day, 1997 in Times Square.  He would go on to earn his Juris Doctorate in May and they married on August 10th in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.

The following October saw the newlyweds move to the outskirts of Savannah, GA (they honeymooned on Tybee Island and fell in love with the area) where Josh took a position was an assistant solicitor for Chatnam County and Luciana began teaching at the local elementary school.  The birth of their daughter in April of 1998 was Josh's proudest moment to date, and even though she was soon diagnosed as being deaf, he's never waivered at being the best possible father he can be.

Having to deal with Lelia's handicap and Luci's misconceived guilt was difficult at first, but he managed to pull himself and his new family through it.  For a while, his wife balked at having anymore children, which was also very hard on him because he wanted such a large family.  Together, they shared in the joys that Lelia gave them until Luci convinced herself that additional children was something she really wanted.  Five days after their fifth wedding anniversary, the McKinnons welcomed a heathly Maddox into the family.

In 2003, Luciana's homesickness prompted the family to move to Pleasant Port so she could be closer to her family in NYC.  With the help of her sister, they found a nice home and Luci went right back into teaching.  Josh pondered the idea of opening his own law office, but within a month he was offered a job as city attorney.

Luciana Moretti-McKinnon
Lelia McKinnon
Maddox McKinnon
Betty Lou Dukes McKinnon (63) - Josh's "Mama" is a seemingly typical southern aristocratic belle.  She's' a charming, graceful, friendly, and warm woman.  A very devoted and loving wife and mother who tries hard to stay abreast of the times.  Josh's attributes his patience and love of kids, music, and dance to her.  Although it took her a while to come to terms that her baby boy had fallen for an "I-talian from up Nawth", she now treats Luci like a daughter---and revels in the role as a grandmother.
Thomas Maddox McKinnon (62) - Josh's father is a very driven man.  His family, his farm, and his community are the things he focuses on.  He owns and operates the most successful farm in Baldwin County, GA.  Conservative-minded yet opinionated, he has a strict set of values he follows and expects others to do the same.  Not outwardly affectionate, Tom prefers to show his love and caring by fixing problems and making sure the people close to him have anything and everything they want.  He finds happiness by enriching the lives of the people around him...and that's doubly true for his children.  He himself enjoys the simple things in life.
Megan Lynn McKinnon (38) - Josh and his sister are close, affectionate siblings.  Unlike his parents, Megan was very accepting of Luciana from the very beginning.  She is a divorced mother of one and lives in Atlanta, GA where she works as an executive producer for a TV station.  She loves to travel and visits Josh and his family often.
