Despite his eccentric taste in fashion, few would deny that Johnny is an attractive man. Johnny’s brown hair is naturally wavy and while never actually appearing to be un-kept it frequently personifies his more rebellious side. Its length varies, although it rarely is actually short; more often it looks to be desperately in need of a cut. Johnny dislikes being clean shaven, only completely shaving his face when his mother forces him to. Usually he sports a thin but well groomed hipster, although he is known to forget to shave and occasionally lets a bit of additional stubble grow on his cheeks. While he’s not overly muscular, Johnny is also neither scrawny nor chubby. He’s proud of his body and rather enjoys going shirtless, as long as the weather’s warm.

As for clothing, there is little that Johnny won’t wear. His taste is rather unusual, borrowing from all ages and many cultures. Johnny frequently wears darker clothing and on a simple day can be seen wearing a pair of jeans and a sweater, topped off with his favourite fedora. More often, however, his dress involves a numerous accessories; Johnny has a vast collection of necklaces, bracelets, and bandanas, all of which he wears regularly. He often wears a fedora.

Johnny considers himself to be a sidekick in his own life – the guy who’s good for a few laughs but is otherwise useless. He’s fun loving and enjoys being the center of attention, although more often than not he finds himself sitting on the sidelines, watching as others live their lives, throwing in the occasional sarcastic remark. Because of his sarcastic nature Johnny is often viewed as a bit of an ass with a tendency to be rude. He can be rather opinionated and has a tendency to speak without thinking. This results in him finding himself in many situations where he feels as if he’s put his foot in his mouth.

There is a darker side to Johnny’s personality. Viewing himself as a failure, Johnny believes that if he lets anyone in they’ll see him as such too. While he would never admit it, Johnny resents those around him – especially Celeste – for their successes. While he’s overcome the huge depression that haunted him in the years leading up to and immediately following his divorce, he hasn’t forgotten the feelings of being completely useless.

His Timeline

Jonathan Zimmerman’s parents, Agnes and Steve, had always lived in Pleasant Port and married soon after high school, a path that Johnny was eager to follow. When he was 14 he began dating the girl that he thought he’d spend the rest of his life with, Celeste, and for awhile it worked. Like his parents before him, Johnny was quick to marry after high school; he and Celeste got married the summer after graduation, just days after her 18th birthday.

The plan was that Johnny would get a business degree and open his own store while Celeste studied nursing. Once they had established themselves, they’d start a family. Life, however, has a tendency to not go according to plan. While Celeste excelled in her studies, it quickly became apparent that Johnny was not cut out for business. Dropping out of school, he got a job at the local department store. While it wasn’t supposed to be a long-term career, as time passed it became more and more likely that he would never leave.

Throughout this, the couple began to grow apart. As she aged, Celeste matured while Johnny insisted on maintaining the same juvenile mentality that he’d had when he was younger. Johnny began resenting his wife for her success – she completed her schooling and got a job that she enjoyed – while she began to view her husband as a failure. In an attempt to fix their failing marriage the two began to try to start the family that they had once so eagerly dreamed of. After a year of trying and no success – not even a single late period – the couple went to a fertility doctor to determine why they weren’t conceiving. Once again, Johnny found himself failing to succeed in the life that he’d planned for himself; he was infertile. While the two tried to conceive through other means, including nearly bankrupting themselves with several failed attempts at artificial insemination, it didn’t take long for Johnny to give up.

For awhile it seemed as if he’d given up on life entirely. While he still did what was necessary to survive, he had become a shell of the person that he had once been. Celeste tried to stay by him throughout this, but in the end it became too much. She was no longer the girl he married, nor was he the man she had vowed to be with forever. Just a month before their ten year anniversary, Celeste moved out.

Their divorce was quick and easy. In the months to follow, Johnny sunk into a deeper and deeper depression. Finally, on what would have been their eleventh anniversary, Johnny attempted suicide; slitting his wrists and drowning his sorrows with Tylenol 3s. Luckily, he was found by a neighbour and rushed to the hospital. Johnny was able to make a slow recovery, aided by large amounts of therapy, his family and a few close friends. Throughout the entire time, Celeste remained by his side. While she was no longer able to be his wife, she was determined to remain his friend.

Johnny slowly managed to get his life back together. He continued to work at the department store, although for awhile he tried going back to school before dropping out once again. When he was 36 his father died of prostate cancer. Because he was worried about his mother living in her house by herself, Johnny moved back into his parents’ home.

In February of 2007, John began experimenting with homosexuality. It all began when he received a blow job from Scott Archer in the bathroom at Fresh Mex. Johnny kept the fling a secret and didn't allow it to expand past the occasional hand job or oral sex, although he was always the recipient of the latter. Part way through September of that year, feeling extremely horny, John got drunk and he and Scott had sex. Less than a week later, John's mother's health took a turn for the worse, dying on September 30. John took his mother's sudden death as a God punishing him for his homosexuality and as a result has avoided all contact with Scott until November 1st. After John failed in resisting the charm of Scott, the two ended up having sex again. Late that night, John had Linda Davis over. When he failed to become aroused he broke down and confessed about his relationship with Scott. Linda ended up staying the night, and early in the morning on November 2, John attempted suicide. Linda succeeded in getting him to the hospital before he died.

Following his second suicide attempt John spent a month in a psychatric institution. Shortly after returning home, he found that his friend Luke Questal had moved into his home while he was away. John didn't complain, he liked having someone else in the house and needed the money that he could get from the rent.

Johnny’s favourite fedora was given to him by his father shortly before his father’s death.
John refuses to commit to a serious relationship, fearing that he is unable to provide for someone else and that eventually they’ll leave him.
Johnny likes to be in control during sex. When he's with another guy, however, he's so lost and unsure of things that while it still needs to be about him, he's a lot more timid.
In an attempt to prevent the relationships of casual sex that he’s developed over the years from turning into actual relationships, John insists on calling all of the people he sleeps with by nicknames that he’s come up with. The only woman he’s been with who he calls her actual name is Celeste. Since his suicide attempt, he's begun ocassionally reffering to Linda using her real name as well.
John thinks politics are stupid, and therefore refuses to vote.

Family

Steve Zimmerman	Steve was Johnny’s father. The two were extremely close when John was younger, but grew apart during his marriage. Following John’s suicide attempt and the diagnosis of Steve’s cancer, the two became closer. Johnny took his father’s death hard, even though he had been prepared for it.
Agnes Zimmerman	Agnes is Johnny’s mother. The two had a strained relationship, as they are complete opposites. Johnny loves his mother, but he didn't understand her. He blames his affair with Scott for his mother's death.
Celeste Feddeck	Celeste was Johnny’s high school sweetheart. They were married for almost 10 years before she left him, and the divorce that followed crippled him. While he’s gotten over her, it’s because of her that he fears relationships. The two remain friends, and John is on good terms with her second husband and children.
Daniel Feddeck	Daniel is the husband of Johnny’s ex-wife. The two don't really get along, mostly due to the fact that John likes provoking Daniel.
Terry Feddeck	John loves Celeste's eldest child, Terry. He frequently forgets how old the boy is, but rather likes the idea of being 'cool Uncle John'. In many ways he sees Terry as the son that he'll never have, although he is far too careless in his relationship with the boy to be seen as a second father.
Sidney Feddeck	John loves Celeste's youngest child, Sidney. He frequently forgets how old the girl is, but rather likes the idea of being 'cool Uncle John'. He rather likes teasing the girl, something which seems to get worse the older she gets.

He finally succeeded in making ammends with her in December, 2007, and since the two have slipped into essentially dating, although neither has said as much. John himself has only begun to realize it recentlly, and isn't sure what to do about it - he's positive that she deserves better than him, but he rather likes being with her. Usually, rather than referring to her by her name, John insists on calling Linda either ‘Sugar’ or ‘Sug’ although he has been known to call her by her name as well.
Adela Martinez	Johnny has been going to Adela’s restaurant since it opened. Right from the start he began flirting with her, regularly trying to get into her pants. He finally succeeded and the two developed a no-strings-attached relationship. What started as random hook ups eventually developed into what was, to Johnny, essentially a relationship. Realizing that they were exclusive and had been together for about a year Johnny decided to break it off, claiming that Adela deserved more than what he could offer her. Once he knew that Adela was seeing someone else, Johnny began going to Fresh Mex again and to this day continues to flirt with her. Since Celeste, Adela is the closest that Johnny’s gotten to being in an actual relationship. Rather than referring to her by her name, Johnny insists on calling Adela ''Nez'.
Luke Questal	Luke's a friend of Johnny's. They rarely talk about anything deep, usually limiting their conversations to alcohol, drugs, and sex.

The two have somewhat regular sexual encounters, although John is adamant that this doesn’t make him gay. The two had sex for the first time in September and a week later John's mother fell ill. When she died, John decided that it was God's way of punishing him for his homosexual acts. After another slip up John attempted suicide. Since then he's done everything he can to avoid the boy. Rather than referring to him by his name, Johnny insists on calling Scott ‘Fudge’.
Nicolette Collins	Several years ago, when Agnes decided that it was time for Johnny to move on with his life after his divorce, she set him up with Nicolette. Right away John made it clear to her that he wasn’t interested in a relationship, although he was up for casual sex. Since then the two have had frequent hook ups. While Johnny’s feelings for Adela were stronger, Nicolette is the type of woman that he would go for if he was interested in a relationship – someone who’s had kids and doesn’t need him for that aspect of life. Rather than referring to her by her name, Johnny insists on calling Nicolette ‘Kitten’.
Lauren Jacobsen	John met Lauren at a bar. Despite their age difference, one thing ended up leading to another resulting in them sleeping together. John insists on calling Lauren "Pumpkin".
Estela Russell	Growing up John was good friends with Estela's eldest brother, Jacob. Because of the friendship, John was often around Estela, who developed a crush on the older boy. While John had no time for her at first, once he realized it he began to use the girl's feelings for his own means. What started out rather innocent - usually John would simply treat Estela as little more than a servant - turned sexual in the years after his divorce. Shortly after Estela turned eighteen John began a sexual relationship with the girl, going so far as to allow her to think that they had something serious. It all came to a close when Jacob found out, causing him to reveal to his sister that John's intentions were far from good. The sex beteen John and Estela stopped happening soon after, and John's friendship with Jacob quickly ended. Despite the fact that this happened more than ten years ago, John still insists on calling Estela "Sweet Heart".

The relationship faded when Tatiana was diagnosed with cancer, although John still cares for her. Rather than call her by her name, Johnny insists on calling Tatiana 'Sugar Lips'.
Oliver Gordon	Johnny is a regular at the bar that Oliver owns. The two chat when he comes in, usually about women. John knows that Oliver isn’t the type to stray from his wife, and as a result he enjoys telling the other man about his own sexual activities.
Jenka Walton-D'Aubigne	Johnny’s always found Jenka attractive. He had heard a bit of gossip about her, mostly through his mother, but his opinions of her were drastically changed after he had sex with her.
