Personality

In high school, Jenka was embarassingly shy, and rarely ever spoke out. If she did, it would be so quiet, some would strain to hear her. After art school, getting married, and living in Paris, Jenka was a bit more vocal about things, even if most of the time her husband spoke up for her. Jenka is a classic artistic type, quiet, shy, and down to earth. It is a bit hard for her to open up after her husband's death, but she is still friendly to people she meets.

Jen is very down to earth and believes in ghosts and spirits. When she is depressed, it is very hard for her to pull herself out of her depression. She likes to sit in her kitchen with a mug of coffee and think, when those things happen. Slowly, she's overcoming these objections. She has to believe in the mantra One Day At a Time, because some days, it's hard for her to get through it.

After opening the video store, she's become a bit more socially active, she began the Art Club at the Community Center, and she is also an adjunct Art and Art History teacher at the Community College.

It's almost as if she is two different people. In public, and known to pretty much everyone in public, Jenka is a quiet reserved person. She never oversteps boundaries, she is rarely bold, and she mainly keeps to herself. She doesn't care for town gossip, and is a model citizen.

Yet, behind closed doors, with lovers, she is impulsive and willing to submit to almost anything. It was a characteristic that she didn't even know she had anymore, until she slept with Johnny. It scares her, how willing she is to do anything asked of her, but it doesn't surprise her.

Personal History

Jenka wasn't ever abused by her parents, or mistreated in any way. Her shyness and quietness is just that, it wasn't inherited or a result of anything. As a child, her head was always full of daydreams, colours, and sounds. Her parents had thought, in the beginning, she was she had difficulties learning, or was mentally disabled. But it was really her artistic talent that kept them from enrolling her in a special education school, and on a trip to the pediatrician, they found that she was perfectly capable of everything a normal seven year old would be capable of. She met Jackie Sanders when she was very young, and they became best friends very quickly.

While her childhood was peaceful, and encouraged; high school was a completely different story. Jenka withdrew into her shell even more, as the girls around her blossomed and grew, and some even taunted her. The only escape was art, and her friends. Popular girls were jealous of her artistic talent, and the fact that she had a good looking boyfriend. She wone more than one competition in art class, but it never made her socially accepted. In high school, she dated Vance O'Malley for the long term, right until he left for the Marines. He was her first everything, but after high school, he decided that he had other plans than to stay in Pleasant Port or move to France. She didn't give Vance an ultimatum like people thought she did, but as soon as he left, she left as well. Jackie had the biggest crush on Drake Lanspeak, Vance's best friend. They all ran with the same group. Drake was funny, and 3 years older than she was (and six years older than Jackie), but he was adorable. Jenka babysat for most of the kids in Pleasant Port. All of the money she earned, she put into savings, so she and Jackie could move to Paris. While most of the kids in high school drove cars, Jen alternated between riding with her parents, or just walking. It didn't bother her, as she knew that she would be in a much better place in a few years. Jackie wasn't able to move with her, as her mother passed away before they were going to leave.

After high school was over, and much to Ernest, Jane, Vance, and Jackie's dismay, Jenka bought her passport and plane tickets. She was going to Paris, France. She was heartbroken that Vance had really enlisted, and thought the best way to get over that was to move far away. She felt bad for leaving her friends, but she was more focused on getting out of the States.

Once she arrived on foreign soil, it seemed like Jenka had finally found the place that was perfectly suited for her. She was finally accepted for who she was. She made friends everywhere she went, and became a little more outspoken. She moved from hotel to flat, from friend's houses, until finally her own apartment. She met Corbin D'Aubigne shortly after, and he was a typical greasy French man. Jenka fell in love quickly, and were married in 1994, when Jenka was only 18. Even at that young age, they were experienced with each other, and were married for 13 years, until that tragic day when Corbin passed.Corbin and Jenka's marraige was a very happy one and they rarely fought. Corbin and Jenka's marraige was a very happy one, and the best quote that would fit them is this:

The fact is that love is of two kinds, one which commands, and one which obeys. The two are quite distinct, and the passion to which the one gives rise is not the passion of the other. -Honore de Balzac

Corbin was Jenka's only family for a long time. Her parents hadn't disowned her, but they were far enough away not to meddle in her day to day life. Every Christmas, Jenka would visit, and she was Jackie's maid of honor in her wedding to Luke Questal. The only real connections she had were with Vance, who often wrote her letters until he learned she married; and of course Jackie.

It was a tragic day when Corbin passed, Jenka and Corbin had been walking together to a park, after leaving a small bistro. Always the protective one, Corbin walked closest to the road. A car had swerved in the road to avoid something, and in that process, had hit Jenka's husband. He was taken to the hospital, and Jenka was at his constant vigil. She prayed to everyone, everything, and just got angrier at the Holy Spirit as Corbin's diminished. His health had declined quickly, and within days, he was dead. In shock, and nothing more to live for, Jenka returned to Pleasant Port, where her parents had lived. Three deaths in three years was more than enough for her, and she became a shut-in.

When Jenka had came back from Paris, she had avoided all stores but the grocery store, avoided all of the staring eyes. But really, people weren't staring at her anymore. It was just like she hadn't left, with the a few exceptions. Norah Parker actually remembered who she was; Jenka had taught her how to paint when she was much, much younger. Jenka had Norah paint on the walls of her home, and Gabriel Parker had not been too happy about that at the time. She was surprised at how much Norah had grown, but remembered that she had only been gone for fourteen years. Jackie, picked up their friendship like she hadn't ever left. Jenka was there when Jackie's marriage had fallen apart, and they were each other's support system.

Jenka had met Theo Beckett at the video store, which she purchased soon after deciding not to be a hermit. She thought Theo was nice, and despite the rumours, wanted to be a friend of his. Jenka had never liked rumours, she thought they were malicious lies. She would much rather find out on her own. Theo turned into a great friend, and as they were both alone on Christmas, Jenka invited him over, and cooked for the both of them. She felt useful again, and more human than she had in the past year. Theo didn't know it, but he probably saved her life that night. Giving him a gift of leather gloves, he was on his way.

It wasn't too soon after that Jenka voulenteered to begin an Art Club at the Community Center. That was her whole passion in life, she realized, to paint, and to teach others to express theirselves. Shortly after, she filled out the necessary applications to become an adjunct teacher at the Community College, for art and art history. And soon, the leters from Vance started up again. She as shocked, crushed, afraid of what she was feeling. But as much as she wanted to withdrawl from the world again, she was too deep in responsibilites to do so. Her heart was broken with his first letter, a love letter. He was the first person she'd ever loved, even if she was afraid to admit that to him, or anyone else. And now that he'd somehow found her again, mixed feelings were beginning to cloud her subconcious.

Once he came home, things were a different story. She had taken one look at Vance, and knew that the chemistry still wasn't there. In her heart, Jenka knew that she should let the memories go. As fate would have it, Drake and Vance moved away to Boston to live together, to continue their love affair that had slowly been cultivating over the years. Jenka was a bit distraught over that, but then again, she had to remind herself. Her love had died when Corbin passed away.

It was a trip to the department store where Jenka actually found some sort of bravery and asked Johnny Zimmerman on a dinner date. She had no idea what had come over her, but this newfound freedom was liberating. Although she stressed out about it, there was nothing to really worry about. They have sex, on occasion, and Jenka is beginning to hate herself for it. She knows she's better than that, but something draws her to him, like a moth to a flame.

Jenka and Tim began their friendship on a warm, spring day. The two had worked next door to each other for quite some time, and while Jenka was wanting to get out more, she introduced herself. The two began to become very good friends, although Jenka was scared to let anyone in too close, and Tim was the same way.

Jane Walton deceased Mother Jenka's mother was one of those overbearing, over achieving mothers. She wanted Jenka to be a cheerleader, honor student, prom queen, go to college, and marry rich. They didn't argue or fight, but Jane was a bit disappointed in the way her daughter turned out. Jenka had nothing but respect for her mother.
Corbin D'Aubigne deceased Husband Corbin meant the world to Jenka, he was her rock when she was depressed. His death still haunts her.

Relationships with other Characters

Scott Archer - Jenka is Scott's teacher at the College. She thinks he is a very bright young man, and has a lot of potential as an artist. She thinks he's hilarious with his rapid-fire questions.

Dana Jenkins - Her brother Lucas works for her. Jen has only met Dana once or twice, but doesn't have a problem with her. She thinks Dana seems sweet.

Tim Jenkins - Jenka and Tim have become friends, and Jenka thinks pretty good ones at that. She thinks it's wonderful that he's been to many different countries, and thinks he is a very sweet man. She has developed a crush on him.

Jackie Sanders - Jackie is Jenka's best friend. They both went through awkward stages when they were younger (braces and frizzy hair, huge bangs and thick glasses), and they are still friends. Jenka considers herself the 'not so pretty' friend. When Jackie's marraige fell apart, Jenka was there to help her through it.

Ariel Reed - Jenka met Ariel at the bakery when she asked the woman about flourless cakes. After finding out that Ariel did her own baking, and watching some of it, Jenka gained respect for her, especially after she had been into the bakery a few times and found little treats without flour especially made for her. Jenka thinks Ariel is a wonderful person, even though they're not the best of friends, but they are slowly becoming more friendly.

Jesse Thompson - Jenka knew him in high school, he was very nice and friendly.

Jonathan Zimmerman - Their relationship is a bit odd. She didn't know him too well when she was younger, but still thought he was pretty cute. Now, she has somehow broken out of her shell and slept with him a few times. It was a brave move on her part. She thinks he is hilarious, and the two of them are a lot alike.

Relationships with NPC/Inactive Characters

Theo Beckett - The way that Jenka and Theo met was so typical, and he was chivalrous enough to escort her to the Pumpkin Festival. Jen considers Theo a close friend, and they spent Christmas together.

Asher Cohen - The Rabbi could be said to treat her for depression, but he's more than just a therapist. He's a friend. Jenka thinks he might be a little on the weird side sometimes, but all in all, he's a well rounded man. She is very saddened that he left to go on voulenteer mission work.

Elise D'Aubigne - Elise is Jenka's sister-in-law, and although the two are a lot alike, they are also different. She feels bad that she had to flee her home country due to problems with her ex-husband, and has offered her a place to stay.

Rosa Gray - Jenka has used her as her psychiatrist alongside with Rabbi Cohen. She has been lacking in her sessions lately, and has a feeling that she will need to visit Rosa soon. She respects Rosa greatly, and understands how hard it must be to know everything about everyone, and want to become a recluse, even if she never voiced that.

Lucas Jenkins - She isn't really sure what to think of Lucas most of the time. Their taste of music and movies are the same, but sometimes, she thinks he is a little extreme. He's one of her employees at the Video Store.

Vance O'Malley - The two had dated in high school. He joined the Marines, came back, and was in love with his best friend Drake. The two moved to Boston shortly after he came home.

Drake Lanspeak - Drake was one of her friends in high school. When Jenka's high school boyfriend came back from the Marines, it was revealed that the two were very much in love with each other. He and Vance moved to Boston shortly after.

Grace O'Malley - Grace knew Jenka's parents, as she dated her son all through high school. When she moved back to Pleasant Port and resumed going to church there, Grace was often a sympathetic ear to Jenka's losses. Jenka has nothing but respect for Grace, and is saddened that she moved with her son.

Norah Parker - Jenka babysat her when she was very young. She taught Norah how to paint, on anything and everything. Tables, floors, walls, canvas, paper, everything. Jenka loves Norah, in the sense that sometimes, when they're together, it feels like they are sisters, at least to Jen, it does. It was very odd to see Norah after Jen finally left her home, as when she left, Norah was just a kid. Jen thinks that she's turned into such a beautiful young woman, and is glad to have had such an important job in shaping her.

Adam Sanders - Jackie's brother. Since Jenka didn't have any siblings of her own, the Sanders provided as many as she needed. She thinks that it's awesome that he's a firefighter and saves people's lives.

Carter Sanders - Jackie's dad. Jenka loves him to pieces, and growing up, felt like he was her second-in-command dad.

Hayley Webb - She knows Hayley from the gallery, where she has put art for sale. She likes that Hayley is a stylish girl, and thinks she is really sweet, even if she doesn't know her very well.

Agnes Zimmerman - Agness is Johnny's mother, but she and Jenka attend the same church. Jenka thinks that Agnes is a sweet lady, who helped her after Corbin and her parents passed away.

Other Characters speak about Jenka

Norah Parker- "When I was much younger, Jenka would watch Justin and me while our parents were out. She introduced me to color, and showed me the art wasn't always coloring inside the lines. I love Jenka for that. I love that she's back, but I wish she would smile more. Watch, when Jenka smiles, you can't help but smile too, it's that infectious."

Asher Cohen - "Jenka is a very brave young lady. She has been through something that should not happen to a person so young. The loss of her husband has hurt her deeply and now she is trying to pick up the shards and put her life back together albeit, with a large bit missing. She's as brave a person as I have ever met and I am very honored she picked me to help her."

Jackie Sanders: "There is no way I could have gotten through the last year without Jenka back here in Pleasant Port. She's always been the best friend I could lean on through all the akwardness and weirdness that has been. Even when she was in Paris we kept in close contact. She's one of the few people I can tell anything to."

Drake Lanspeak : "Jenka is a beautiful person inside and out. I am glad to call her a friend."

Scott Archer: "She seems like a really cool teacher already. It was a little embarrassing that she knows I watch porn since she's my teacher, but who doesn't watch porn? It's cool that her store carries it."
