Appearance
Janie comes from a mixed ethnical background, referring to herself as a “mutt.” Her mother, Gabriella, is of Indian, Native American and Spanish. Janie’s father, Ethan, was German and Austrian descent. Her darker features such as hair, eyes and olive complexion heightened with a tan from her mother. Many of her facial features such as her structured nose and dimples from her father. She’s always complained about having hips no matter how hard she works at her healthy diet.
Jane’s full lips are one of her favorite assets and for years have complained about her smaller breasts. When she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer it didn’t seem like such a big deal anymore. She had reconstruction done on her left breast after its removal due to the cancer. She has some scares but from a normal persons perspective she is just that, normal.
She stands at 5’8, long brown hair, often highlighted. She never had much of a problem with acne and very few scars from pimples or chicken pox. She did live it up when she thought she was dieing and got a tattoo. A large purple, pink and blue butterfly on her lower back spanning from side to side. It was one of the most liberating things she’d ever done in her life.
Jane just underwent a second surgery to remove her right breast also due to Breast Cancer. She had reconstruction done to match that of her left breast and with currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation Jane is going through some changes such as losing her hair (often wears scarves on her head or hats), dry pale skin, bags under her eyes, lost some weight from ill side effects of the treatment.
Personality
Jane was a very outgoing life of the party type of girl until she got married and was diagnosed with cancer. She became a quieter person yet never a wall flower. She learned to hold her tongue. She became the friend she thought a good friend should be and until divorce papers were served she thought she was the wife she should be. She’s easy to talk to as she is a great listener. She keeps secrets and rarely kisses and tells.
She no longer feels the need to be the center of attention. She may still be a leader at some things but knows that being a follower is okay as well. She’s become self assured and independent.
Janie like everyone had her downfalls. She has an insensitive side for those who get what they deserve. She tends to get negative or pessimistic when things get hard. Jane may have learned to hold her tongue yet she finds that sometimes that her opinion can angry others. She has always felt that her snobbish attitude as a teenager is why karma now unleashes its fury. She has a hard time believing when things start going well that they'll continue in that manner because something is bound to go wrong.
She is now spending her life planning other people’s important events. She hopes for each of them that their marriage will be infinitely better there hers. She once believed there was someone out there for everyone and now she knows that there is no such thing as fairy tales... but don't tell her customers that!
After Janie left Pleasant Port she traveled from naval base to naval base with her husband. Being attached to a military man had its perks as she got to see much of the world. Bradley was a difficult man to live with. He thought he could order her as he did the men under his command. Everything from the organization of the can goods in the pantry to how the towels were arranged had to be perfect. The better his naval career got the worse their marriage got. At the beginning of her illness he was supportive but towards the end he did everything he could to avoid the subject and having to deal with it. She had convinced herself that the changes in her body made her unattractive to a man. She believes when a man looks her direction that he must be looking at a more beautiful woman standing near because it certainly couldn't be her.
Marriage to Bradly Ashby
Marriage to Brad... where to begin? Jane's relationship with Bradly was a great fit from the start. They started dating her Junior (11th grade) year in high school. They continued to date throughout the rest of high school and married a few months after graduation in October 1995. Bradly was accepted into the Navy and quickly climbed the ranks. She enjoyed the travel from place to place from the small town areas to the exotic. He'd spoiled her with gifts, affection and much love. Well until she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. When she needed him most he wasn't there. Things fell apart quickly once she began to lose her hair and became thin and ill due to treatment.
Bradly began seeing other women. Anyone from Jane's friends, a nurse that cared for her and other women. Jane was devastated when she found this out. It was not long after that discovery that she got served divorced papers. By that time they had been sleeping in separate beds for years and they'd stopped celebrating things together such as birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.
Jane is still emotionally scarred from the things he'd said and id towards the end of their marriage. She is determined to stand strong and move on but it has not been without tears.
The Battle with Breast Cancer
Jane was diagnosed with an invasive stage II Breast cancer. Her cancer had spread to the lymph nodes under the arm on the same side as the breast cancer, which is her left. The affected lymph nodes have not yet stuck to one another or to the surrounding tissues, a sign that the cancer has not yet advanced to stage III. The tumor was over the smaller 2 centimeters but had not reach the large of a 5.
Jane's treatment began with a local therapy consisting of surgery and radiation and is directed at destroying any cancer cells in and near the breast. Surgery and radiation are considered local therapies because they can treat the cancer in the breast and prevent cancer recurrence in the affected breast and surrounding area, but cannot treat cancer that has already spread to other locations in the body.
Jane opted for a mastectomy of her left breast and a axillary lymph node dissection. The next step was intervenious Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is any treatment involving the use of drugs to kill cancer cells, and is a standard adjuvant therapy for the treatment of early stage breast cancer. This was the longest part of the treatment and the hardest to deal with. Not only did it really set in that she was really going through this but she begin to see the real changes in the loss of hair all over her body, even her eyelashes were gone to intensely dry irritated skin and being unable to heal from the smallest of injuries.
Jane has recently been diagnosed with a similar case of Breast Cancer in her Right breast. She has recovered from another mastectomy and breast reconstruction. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. She's lost her hair, eyebrows, eyelashes and most other hair with the exception of having to continue to shave her legs. She has been unable to handle the new diagnosis well after the miscarriage and had begun to keep to herself. She has been pushed by friends to keep on moving but finds it on some days a struggle.
Lives in town since: Janie grew up in Pleasant Port but moved away when she married her High School sweetheart, Bradly. They are now divorced and she has returned to pleasant port to start over.

Family Background
Janie was an only child; both of her parents are deceased. Her father died in a car accident when she was a teenager and her mother of pneumonia a few years ago. She has no children. She’s always been “alone” she says even surrounded by friends and loved ones. She talks little about her family as it was not the best time in her life and as she has no children it leaves her without that family support system she longs for.
Jane and Robert were very close friends when they were younger. Jane was Robert's one female experience and the guy she lost her virginity to. He is one of the few people that she has kept in touch with since she left Pleasant Port. She is looking forward to catching up in person and not just by email and letter. Since returning to Pleasant Port Jane has found comfort as always with Robert. She couldn't believe it when he turned up on her doorstep.
Adam and Jane were close friends in high school. They met by her having a crush on him but he was dating someone else. He became a brotherly type friend to her, always there when she needed him. Unfortunately they lost contact when she married and moved away. Jane is glad to have reaffirmed her friendship with Adam. He is very supportive and surprising. When he offered to be the father of her baby by In Vitro Fertilization. They tried the In Vitro which was successful but due to other health issues Jane lost the baby and both were discouraged at trying again.
Jane use to babysit Ben when he was younger. They spent alot of time talking, especially after the tragic accident. How will Ben feel seeing her for the first time after all the times he'd confided in her when he was younger? Jane is looking forward to reconnecting with Ben as he is with Robert now.
Charlotte and Jane were friends in high school and have kept in touch after Jane moved away. Jane is looking forward to seeing Charlotte in person after 12 years.
Luke and Jane slept together once, the night before her wedding. She was drunk and possibly out of her mind. A secret which few know. The next day she acted as if nothing happened and married Bradly. Now she is neighbors with him.
Jane knows JT from back in school. They grew up together. They have caught up a few times and he invited her to come horseback riding but she keeps making excuses but she really has no excuse. Spending time with friends is what she knows she needs to do.
Jane and Leah have a business relationship. As Jane's wedding planning service takes off she is forming business alliances such as design, floral, catering, etc. jane hopes to form more of a friendship with Leah as they work together.
Jane's ex-husband. Moved to Pleasant Port briefly and then left town.
