Appearance
Gil is very tall and stands at 6'5, which makes it hard for him to go unnoticed. He has dark hair and complexion -- actually, more like a badly tanned skin --, and has a sort of russian jawline and chin. He has dark eyes that don't seem to reflect any light at all. He likes to keep his beard well shaven. His hair tends to be always badly in need of a haircut, usually hidden beneath a baseball cap.
He dresses casually, like a teenager. Gil seems to always be wearing black combat boots and loose button shirts left untucked over a simple t-shirt. Despite that, one would easily think he's older than he really is. Perhaps that's because of the tired expression he can't seem to get rid of.
Gil has a scar on his right little finger from when he took a bullet running from the police. He lost any movement to that finger, as well as any tactile sensitivity. He also has a scar on his forehead, beginning an inch above his right eyebrow and ending somewhere hidden into his hair. Another scar is one on his left elbow, that he got when he was 7 and went sailing with his father.
All of his fingerprints are deformed. Gil burns them by heating up a frying pan on the stove and pressing his fingertips on the hot surface. And he does that as often as he feels it's necessary. Because of that, he has no tactile sensitivity on them as well.
He should wear glasses, but hates them. Gil is awfully short-sighted and without glasses he can't distinguish a man from a woman if the person is more than 10 feet away. And he won't wear contacts. So, unless he's working, he'd rather not see than wear those annoying little things.
Personality
Gil doesn't really seem to be much of a friendly guy all along, and truth is it usually seems he's trying too hard to be nice. He can be moody though, and often uses sarcasm to keep himself from doing anything stupid against others. He has a weird and rather dark sense of humor, but doesn't really notice it. It's just his way of facing things. Gil is not much of a summer person and the sun bothers him a lot.
He can't seem to be able to show any feelings at all. It's hard to get him happy and might be even harder to see him angry. Perhaps excitement is one of the only true feelings he is able to express. And yet, not many things excite him. His inability to feel adrenaline upsets him. Gets a little on his nerve. But just a little.
Yet, most of the time Gil will be trying to appear to others as what he thinks others would expect of him. And maybe he tries too hard. To be normal. Or look as if he was. People can tell he's odd. People can tell he's trying hard to be something he's not. Like if he was a really bad actor.
Mostly, he'll be quiet and keeping to himself. He can't seem to trust anyone, and though he's decided to build himself a new life, he is still very reluctant to actually start it. And people can't seem to stop getting him new jobs.
Gil has a reputation of getting the job done quickly and leaving no trace behind. He likes his reputation. He doesn't work for the money anymore, as he has made enough money to disappear and never work again. In a way, he does it because it's the only thing he knows how to do.
The truth is that Gil doesn't like people at all. He can't understand people. Their happiness and sadness. Their rules of society. Gil doesn't get it at all. He sees no point in most of the struggles people go through in life. He watches it all almost as if he was watching another species.
He needs to keep himself busy and he hates having too much free time. Gil knows how dangerous free time can get in his hands.
Personal History
His timeline.
Gil was born in Los Angeles. He was the youngest in a house with 3 boys. His father was a loving type, though he didn't have too much time to spend with his family. His mother, Cintia, was a pre-school teacher. She died when he was 8, and shorty after that his father commited suicide. He was left with his two older brothers. One of them was 19 and the other was 21. They went to live together, but it was decided that Gil would be raised by his aunt and uncle. He hated them.
And whatever happened in those years while he was growing up seems all foggy to Gil. He vaguely remembers his uncle yelling. Something about being caring and giving and not getting anything back.
He started studying biology in college and went to live alone when he was 18. A few years after that Gil started working for a man called Ray Warren, a drug dealer. Ray run a pretty large deal with his brother Lewis. Gil was Ray's right arm and personal hitman.
Ray Warren had a 13-year-old daughter called Denise. Gil was Denise's idol, though Gil didn't really care for that.
During the time he worked for Ray he had one love affair with a woman named Vera Chiarelli. Vera is still the only love of his life. She left him after finding out what he did for a living. More so, it was Gil who told her she deserved better. He misses her.
There was one nasty betrayal and the police started getting close to Ray. Ray's lawyer cut a deal with the LAPD and they intercepted one of Ray's shippings.
Gil decided the best he could do was get away as soon as possible. He knew the police would eventually get to him if he stuck around. But things didn't go quite as planned, and Ray was killed in a shooting with the police on the same day Gil was planning on leaving.
Denise managed to escape from the scene and found Gil shortly after that. She told him what happened.
The police knew Ray had a right arm man. They also knew who Gil was. But there was no proof of anything. And there's a big difference between knowing and actually proving it. Gil was a trained brain and a little too careful when it came to doing his job. Strictly speaking, Gil was just the bartender at a restaurant owned by Lewis Warren. He was registered. He even had the neat bartender clothes to prove it. And the police had nothing against Ray's brother. Not yet.
Gil offered the nicely dressed police detective at the station a large and somewhat dark smile and walked out through the front door. He found Denise waiting outside, hiding behind the corner.
The girl didn't want to stay with her uncle Lewis. She thought the man was a brainless jerk. She knew Gil had plans of leaving town, and Denise wanted to go with him. Gil wasn't so thrilled with the idea. Sure the police would be wondering where Ray's daughter went, but they wouldn't ever think Denise would be with Gil. Or would them? "You're 13, they'll want you with your legal guardian", Gil had said. "Besides, what you imagine they'll think once they find out I'm travelling around with a 13 year-old girl who's not even remotelly related to me?" Denise didn't care. Wasn't Gil running from the police, anyway?
Mostly because he didn't care, Gil let Denise come with him. The next day they were in New Mexico with new IDs and all sorts of legal paperwork. Gil Tradsky was now Gil Johnson and Denise Warren was Skye Johnson, an orphan living with her uncle.
Gil didn't bother getting a different name because no one knew his first name. He was only known by Tradsky. Ray probably didn't know his name either, and Gil didn't give a damn. He got his hair cut shorter and started wearing a baseball cap all times.
Gil's actual plan was to fly to Venezuela, but that would have to wait. Besides, he's afraid of flying, so he'll hang on to whichever excuse he may get.
For a while they just roamed. Gil got a few jobs. The right people knew him, and knew how to look for him. Denise didn't care. She knew what his deal was, and often asked about things. Gil never answered. A few months later he got a call from Italy.
Lorenzo Costa knew Ray Warren and Gil's reputation. He had a job that could take a while, but would be well paid. It sounded, to him, like a stupid job, but Gil was bored.
Soon he was arriving at Pleasant Port. The name of the town disgusted him, but Denise decided that was the good thing about it. No one would look for them there, all across the country, facing the Atlantic in a town with "pleasant" in its name. And then they could even lay low in there for a while. The police would have to forget about him sooner or later.
After Elise left Pleasant Port and went back to Europe, Skye convinced Gil to stay there for a while longer. And because he could leave any time he wanted, he agreed.
