Appearance

Standing at 5' 10", Fionn doesn't look like a very strong guy. He has a deceptively slender build, but what there is of him is all muscle. He meets every morning with a long run with his dog, Salvador, and often ends the day lifting weights while watching whichever guilty pleasure of a television show he's recently become addicted to. His hair is short, curly brown and it's usually flattened down to his head by whatever cap he wore during the day. His eyes are hazel and have a tendency to stare at anyone or anything that interests him. He doesn't usually give much thought to what he wears, unless he's trying to impress someone (which isn't often). Usually, he dresses casually in jeans and a long-sleeved shirt. There's usually paint under his nails.

Scars: Beneath his lower lip, from a childhood climbing accident.

Things you might not notice: Fionn is missing two teeth, the second premolar and the first molar on the left side of his mouth, so he tends to chew on the right. What happened to them, you ask? He won't tell the truth, but he'll make up a different story for anyone who asks him about it.

Accent/language: Fionn was born and raised in Boston with an large Irish family, in a very Irish neighborhood. His accent has traces of Bostonian, but the cadence and sounds are all Ireland. The combination of Boston and Irish in his voice tends to make him sound Welsh. He has a few choice Gaelic phrases he uses, but it's a second language to him, not a first.

Personality

Fionn has a playful soul. He'd rather be laughing than anything else and will allow the humor of any situation to find him, no matter how inappropriate his laughter might be at that time. He adapts to situations easily, rarely forcing himself to the forefront of any issue. If he feels strongly enough about something to feel a need to see it change, he'll try to convince others of the need rather than take it on himself. He sees the world with an artist's eye and he loves nothing more than to explore it and the people around him with a never-ending well of curiosity and appreciation.

That said, he's not a party animal. He likes a small group of people in a place he can hear them more than a crowd where all he can hear is the bass beat. If he had his choice, he'd be out running wild with Sal or sketching in the dim light of a café. He'll try anything once, but once he has he'll be quick to make his opinion of it and usually sticks to that first decision. With people, he's more forgiving, and usually tries to believe the best about those around him until they prove him, irrevocably, wrong.

Personal History

Fionn was born at Quincy Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts in 1981. He was the one member of his family who never had any real defined 'goals'. All he knew was that he loved to draw, to paint, to smash his hands around in clay and make 'wicked' things, and to make new things out of old things so that people would love them again. Luckily for him, with four siblings ahead of him keeping their nose to the grind, he was allowed to do just that. Aside from his artistic streak, he was the son his father had always wanted. He played little league, then soccer, then ice-hockey and track. He and his sister Eileen had a special relationship with their Da, sharing his love of the outdoors, and often going on outings just the three of them to hike, or rock climb, or white-water raft. On family vacations, they would always be the ones dragging in at the end of the day with scrapes and bruises and wide grins as the other four members of their family closed books and smoothed tanning lotion.

After high school, he went to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2003. He stayed in Boston for a year after his graduation, but found himself stagnating. He moved to Vermont and lived with his sister Eileen for a few months, and then gave up on that as well. He needed his own space, and something... different. He sold two large canvas pieces and rented a studio space in New York City. He hated the city. He went upstate and bought Salvador, in an attempt to bring some friendliness home with him. He and Sal became fast friends. Unfortunately, the city and Fionn refused to do that. So Fionn pulled out a map of the northeast and stuck three pins in it randomly... and landed in Pleasant Port.

Family Background

Fionn is the last of five children born to Mary and Patrick Gallagher in Boston, Mass. His siblings Brigit, Conor, Deirdre, and Eileen all still live in the northeast. Brigit and Conor are still in Boston, working at their father's real estate firm. Deirdre is working as an EMT in New York City. And Eileen is in Vermont, working at a nature preserve.

On spring break, his first year at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, he announced to his family that he was bringing home not a girl, but a boy, there was some confusion and then, for the most part, a shrugging acceptance.

Patrick claimed that so long as Fionn didn't plan on joining the ballet or dragging him to some "nancy opera" then he didn't much care who he wanted to engage in elicit activities with. His mother was a little saddened, but by this time Eileen was already pregnant with her first child and had been married a year, so her need for grandchildren was already being met. Conor claimed he'd known all along, Deirdre has jokingly offered that should things not work out, she knew plenty of single men in New York. Only Brigit found the news disturbing, and she's been reticent about her reasons. Nevertheless, the two barely speak any more, not for lack of trying on Fionn's part.

Relationships with other Characters

Leif Anderson  - Fionn met Leif when he invited himself to lunch with Leah. They don't know each other hardly at all, but Fionn thinks there's a story lying inside Leif. He's thinking about asking him to sit, but he's a little wary about that tension he sensed at their first meeting, so he's taking it slow.

Scott Archer - Scott and Fionn met at the Dog park when Milo and Sal became fast friends. They've shared a few bowls, some good veggies, a variety of sketches, and a couple friendly tonsil-hockey matches.

Amber Boyd - Amber is a little lightning bug who lights up Fionn's world.

Austin Boyd - Fionn met Austin in a film history class in his last year of college. They became good friends and kept in touch after Fionn graduated. It was Austin who eventually talked Fionn out of trying to play straight for the sake of his sister's affections. He couldn't be happier that Austin found someone to settle down with and find a life with.

Natalie Boyd - Fionn met Natalie through her then boyfriend Austin when he was still in Boston. He liked Natalie immediately when he met her and as soon as little Amber came into the world, Fionn made himself her unoffical uncle spoiling her rotten. He and Natalie became friends of a sort, but they haven't had much time to get to know one another outside of Boston house parties and the times he's come to babysit when she and Austin are going out.

Travis Collins - Fionn met Travis when he was trying to single-handedly push his small couch up the stairs. Travis offered to help and Fionn repaid him with a pizza and a beer. They haven't had many chances to hang out since then, but Fionn likes to think Travis was his warm welcome to Pleasant Port.

Farrah Covington - Fionn met Farrah at The Bar when she was dancing to Benny Benassi's Satisfaction. He joined her and they had a ripping good time until 3 in the morning when they were booted from the establishment and both far too drunk to drive. Instead of letting Farrah wind her way home, Fionn walked her back to his place and tucked her into bed, talking to her wild ramblings as though they were coherent, and then passing out on the floor next to her in a happy stupor. The next morning saw him merrily cracking eggs and chatting amiably to her. And amiably they have chatted ever since. Fionn gave her his number should she ever need a ride she trusts again, a place to hide out until the hangover wears off, or a drink and dance buddy.

Noah Daniels - Fionn met Noah under somewhat strange circumstances, when Sal acted out attempting to assert his dominance over Noah's new cat. Fionn redeemed himself, first with kind words and dog tricks, then with free pie. Fionn came to realize that they had a lot more in common than he'd first thought. They've taken Cian and Noah's nephew Cam on many playdates and some how started just going out by themselves when the situation presented itself. Fionn thinks that Noah's incredibly attractive, but he's hesitant to get mixed up in anything serious again since Adam. And he knows that Noah is having much the same issue.

Michel Decker - Michel lives across the hall from Fionn and they talk every time they meet. Sometimes they hang out. Fionn thinks the guy's a blast, if a little 'in his head'.

Cadissy Dresden - Fionn met Cadissy and her two children at the dog park. He loved playing with her kids. Sal loved Doozy. It was a general, fun love fest. He doesn't know her very well, but she invited him to come have a water war with her and the kids when the weather got warmer, and he got utterly and completely soaked.

Ashley Hodge - Fionn and Ashley met in the park, when Ashley was huddled on a bench sketching out tattoo designs. Being inquisitive and naturally inclined towards any art in progress, Fionn nosed his way over and watched for a while, before pulling out his own pad and trying his own hand at a couple ideas her sketch had sprung. That was the beginning. Now the two have a strangely comforting ritual of meeting every once in a while to share a toke and sketch out tattoo designs and various other sundries over piles of curried vegetables or whatever other veggie delight they decide upon.

Leah Morgan - Fionn met Leah when he imposed on her at lunch at Tony and Tina's Pizzeria. He impressed her with a sketch of herself, and later painted a reproduction of the sketch, in grayscale oil, and gave it to her as a gift. Now he's trying to facilitate a business arrangement with her, offering his ceramics at slightly marked up costs to her for her customers' set ups. He finds her refreshingly interesting, no matter how annoyed she gets at him.

Ariel Reed - Ari was literally run down by Fionnegan one morning when he was jogging past the bakery as she was carrying things in one morning. She made an effort to be upset about it, but he won her over with his cheerful spirit forced her into a tentative friendship with him instead. Now he helps her load her car for work some mornings and she in turn feeds him and bakes him special goodies.

Relationships with Inactive Characters

Norah Parker - Fionn ran into Norah while she was working on her mural at Fresh Mex only two days after he moved into town. The two hit it off immediately, despite their age difference. Since that fateful day, they've spent an inordinate amount of time together commenting on David Bowie's pants and quoting their way through shared movie favorites. Norah has a standing offer to "borrow" Sal and take him on walks or car rides during the day while Fionn's at work. She's generally the first place he goes when he's trying to figure his way around Pleasant Port or its inhabitants.

Adam Sanders - Fionn met Adam at the Diner and the two fell into a conversation that lasted several hours and ended in Fionn's apartment. Since that night, Adam had preyed on Fionn's mind, and Fionn decided to deal with this by using all the charm in his arsenal to sway the firefighter into his bed. So far, he's gotten him into bed, but only for sleep. For some reason (unknown to Fionn if you ask him), this is almost as good as the other things he'd like to do. For now, Fionn is grappling with what he's feeling, but having a great time doing it.
