Emily has blue eyes and she has short blond hair which often seems a little ruffled up, sort of a styled messy look which she doesn’t really style but it’s just her hair. She is of regular height and regular built, not really thin and not really curvy either.
Usually you can find her wearing jeans or regular pants and t-shirt or a blouse, often with a suit jacket or a jeans jacket over it. Emily likes to wear comfortable shoes like sneakers or just regular shoes. Now and then, you can spot her wearing a suit. When it’s a little colder, she usually wears a sweater, often with a blouse under it which then peeps out of under the sweater. When she feels like, Emily can also be even more casual and wears a hoodie, when she wears one to school she usually puts a suit jacket over it.
She has the habit of wearing her watch on her right arm, which is not because she’s left-handed, it’s just something she has done since she was a kid. Further she always wears a ring with a lapis lazuli on her left ring finger. Emily usually uses a brown leather backpack as her bag.
History
Emily grew up in Pleasant Port where she had a pretty happy childhood with two loving parents. After high school, she moved away to explore the world and after traveling through Europe for a year, Emily attended Berkley University where she double majored in Creative Writing and English Literature. Always a grade A student, Emily was pretty well liked by her professors and quickly became a TA and besides that took part in many extracurricular activities.
Once she had become a TA, Emily fell in love with her professor and they had a relationship for a while. He was her first real love and the man she lost her virginity too. Because he was still married, their relationship never had a future and he kept stringing her along. She even got pregnant by him but because he didn't want anything to do with the baby as to not loose his position and face. Emily was in doubt for a while what to do but in the end she decided to have the abortion and quickly after that she moved back to Pleasant Port where she started over.
After she graduated, Emily stayed in Berkley for a couple of years where she got a job at the university as a teacher but after a while it draw her back to Pleasant Port so she gave up the possibility of having a great career at the university and getting her PhD but instead thought English Literature at Pleasant Port high school for a couple of years until she got the opportunity of buying Square Books and as an avid book lover that's where she feels most on her place.
After a couple of years being back in Pleasant Port, she and Styles fell in love and actually got engaged, they stayed together for 5 years until they broke up 3 years ago due to some differences in opinion. Emily wanted to finally get married and have kids when Jason wasn't ready for it. It was the reason why they split up eventually, she felt like she couldn't wait anymore and had to move on because she wasn't getting any younger.

Robert is Emily's brother, they've also gotten along perfectly and are more friends than siblings. He's Emily's best friend and he's the one she would tell anything.
Jason and Emily were together for about 5 years. They were engaged even when they mutually decided it wasn't working anymore 3 years ago. They remained good friends and Emily still likes him and sometimes she secretly hopes they can get back together again. They met at his cafe because Emily often goes there to get something to eat or drink since it's only a few houses away from her book shop. After a while they fell in love and after a while they moved in together and got engaged.
Emily has known Ben since he was younger and she of course knew about his parents and everything that happened to him as it goes in a small town but she never really got to know him until he started working at her store. She took an immediate liking to him and it didn't take her long to consider him as another younger brother. It's a different relationship than the one she has with Robert though as he's more a friend than a brother for her. With Ben she feels like she needs to take him under her wings and she really does see him as her little brother.
One of Emily's best friends. They've known each other for a long time and even though Sam is a little older and they were a few grades apart, they became close friends. They also remained in touch when Emily moved away and she was the maid of honor when Sam and Gerard got married.
Jesse was one of Emily's best friends back in high school. They hung out together a lot and started climbing and hiking together. They kept in touch here and there during the years he was away from PP.
They go back quite some time because Jason is sort of a dad for Maddy, Emily has always cared deeply for Maddy and loves her like she would love a daughter or a little sister.
Acquaintances
They know each other from the bookstore and the cafe and partied for Halloween together. She thinks he's a really funny guy and great to get along with.
She knows him through Jason and he's her hair dresser.
In high school Emily had a crush on Luke who was two years older than her and in her eyes the coolest. Of course her being the nerdy girl, he didn't care for her. He graduated and she never saw him around anymore and Emily kinda forgot about Luke until she came back to Pleasant Port and bought a house on Sunset Creek Drive and found out that Luke was living in the same street. They talk now and then but he still makes Emily kind of uncomfortable, not because she still has a crush on him but because she used to have one and because he's so different from her.
Andrea's daughter, Emily thinks she's a great girl who's had too much to go through at her age already. She admires her for getting through it all.
