APPEARANCE

Sometimes his brown hair is scruffy and sometimes it’s well groomed, depending on what his week has been like. He wears either look well. In the summer, his hair will naturally show blondish highlights if he spends too much time in the sun. Recently, Corey has allowed his hair to grow out so that it is more longish than he is used to having. He admits that it can take away from his "doctor" look, but he likes it. His deep brown eyes have an intense quality but there are times they will show how vulnerable he is. His 6'3"  frame is lankier and less toned than it once was. He tries to stay in shape, but the grueling hours of his job often make it difficult to plan regular visits to the gym. He is proud of the fact that he still has remnants of a six pack lingering somewhere beneath the shirts he wears.

To offset his youthful appearance which can initially instill doubt in patients about his skill and expertise, he makes a point to be impeccably put together while he is on the job - slacks, button down shirt, tie. When he is off duty, he usually likes to wear anything else.

PERSONALITY

For some people, hardships early on in life often lead to a heightened sense of humility, but for Corey, in a lot of ways it has created some resentment and an extreme desire to distance himself from them. Everything he has done has been in an effort to never have to experience those hardships again, sometimes even at the expense of others. He is often torn between not wanting to turn his back on his roots and rising above his humble beginnings.

His attempts to leave his past behind have given him an air of superiority. At work, he’s often seen as a cocky, hot shot, know-it-all doctor. In most situations, including his personal life, he appears hallow, methodical and mechanical. This is something he attributes to being necessary to be successful in his profession and he is still coming to terms with the best way to separate himself emotionally.

He is a very private person and prefers to keep his personal and professional lives separate. He has never hidden his sexuality, but he also doesn’t put it out there either. Part of him is relieved that he doesn’t come across as a typically gay man because he does not want to be defined by that aspect of his life. He wants to maintain some of his credibility as a professional. He would rather be seen as just another doctor and not necessarily a gay doctor.

While becoming a doctor initially appealed to him because of the prestige and possible accolades, he now genuinely loves what he does and recognizes how good he has become at it. Corey has always known that he was never the smartest doctor around, but he was usually willing to work the hardest. He excelled in the moment and found being a doctor gave him a rush. Realizing this made him decide to pursue emergency medicine. Even now, he still gets a rush when the pressure to save a life is on.

HISTORY

Corey Timeline

Corey was born the second child to Donovan and Mya Lindaugh in upstate New York, in the city of Rochester. Donovan worked as a mechanic and Mya worked waitressing jobs for years. Corey’s older brother, Doug, eventually dropped out of high school to follow in their father’s footsteps. Despite not being the smartest student, Corey would become the first from the family to graduate from high school. Eventually this feat would inspire his mother to obtain her GED and go on to nursing school.

Following high school he went away to college on Long Island at SUNY Stony Brook, not really serious about what his major would be. To help pay for college, he helped flip houses on the island, bartended and also was a waiter at some high end country clubs in the Hamptons. He began to see the life he wanted to have and shortly after his sophomore year started, he made the decision to become Pre-Med. This was something that friends and family seemed to scoff at, given his rather mediocre performance to that point.

Also at Stony Brook, he started to experiment with his sexuality, identifying himself as bisexual.  Following his graduation, he returned home to the University of Rochester for med school. First year of his internship was also done at the UofR. During med school, Corey found himself starting to become more attracted to men and started to see them more exclusively, admitting that he was in fact homosexual.

Although he wasn’t ashamed of his preference of men over women, Corey wasn’t in a rush to come out to his family, something that was helped significantly by his long hours in med school and at local hospitals or clinics volunteering. Eventually, his sister, Connie, who he was closest to of anyone in his family, did find out. She agreed to keep quiet until such a time he felt comfortable opening up to everyone.

With med school coming to a close, he started to look for places where he wanted to end up for his residency. His parents assumed that he would stay in Rochester and settle down to start a family. It was at this time that he knew he needed to tell them why doing so would be difficult. When he revealed that he was gay, there was some initial awkwardness within the family in how to deal with it. His father and older brother weren’t hostile about it, but they often made it clear that they had trouble understanding his choices. Whereas Corey once would have had no qualms about brushing up his sleeves and lending a hand in the shop, the lingering effects of that time means he just doesn’t feel comfortable in that environment anymore. In contrast, his mother and younger sister almost seemed too supportive, to a point where it bordered on unrealistic and smothering.

Despite the awkwardness he feels interacting with them at times since he came out, Corey still cares very deeply for all the members of his family. His soft spot for them and even the fondness for his hometown area and childhood often have him hoping to have a family himself one day. He has never said as much openly, but one appeal to moving to CT was that it was one of two states in the country that has been open to the legalization of gay marriage.

Since arriving in Pleasant Port in 2004, Corey has spent the bulk of his time honing his craft as a resident doctor in the ER. Any spare time he has managed to get has been invested in his hobby of flipping houses. In early 2007, he received word that his sister Connie would be joining him in Pleasant Port, and thus he was compelled to buy the current house they live in. With the end of his residency in 2008, Corey was faced with the choice of staying at Pleasant Port Hospital as an attending or going elsewhere and eventually he decided to stay.

Scott Archer (Hook Up/Crush) - Corey is a regular at Fresh Mex where he gets his fill of spicey ethnic food and also a some eye candy in Scott. After several conversations about the endless uses for the hospital's On Call Room, Corey invited him over to his place after work and they hooked up.

Farrah Covington (Acquaintance/Patient) - She's been a patient in the ER several times since Corey's been in town: a few overdoses and a car accident.

Casey Donovan (Acquaintance) - Corey knows Casey primarily through the softball team.

Harry Gowan (Coworker) - Corey knows him as a fellow doctor in the ER, working closely with him on many cases. But Corey doesn't know much about the man outside of work.

Ethan Hauer (Friend) - Besides playing softball, Corey and Ethan also like talking about  the talent on the farm teams of major sporting clubs.

Amy Salinger (Friend) - Corey recently met her at some local political activism meetings. Recently she tried to set him up with her other gay friend, Brendan.

William Talon (Patient) - A patient of Corey's who was brought into the hospital by his friend, suffering from severe migranes.

Brendan Wright (Potential Hook Up/Crush) - Corey met him when Amy attempted to play matchmaker, setting up her two single, gay friends. She gave Bren Corey's number and told Corey that Bren would be calling. Which he did. Despite an awkward phone call, the two planned to meet up for drinks. Again, despite some initial awkwardness to start the date, it eventually seemed to be going well until the two started to kiss. A touch to Bren's head near his scar caused him to pull away and left Corey confused.

RANDOM FACTS

  • Loves listening to up and coming singers and bands, especially those with the strong sounds of the acoustic guitar. When he has time, he surfs online for them or chats with old friends who have the inside skinny on artists of interest to him. He has attended the South by Southwest Music Festival and years ago, several Lilith Fair concerts (which he jokingly admits was a really gay thing for him to do).
  • Loves cooking and once considered culinary school instead of being a doctor
  • Self taught guitar player and wishes he could play the sax
  • Loves fantasy baseball leagues...every year before the season starts, he meets up in NY with a bunch of his buddies and does a draft

  • Even though he believes it to be a wasteful sport, he has a fascination with race car driving and growing up with regularly visit Watkins Glen with brother Doug. He has a fantasy of driving one some day or even working in a pit crew just for shits and giggles.

In his teen years, he worked with his father and older brother on cars. Now this skill obviously is translated into his work as a doctor, but he also likes to restore old houses when he has time.
