Francis Salinger is not only an alumnus of the college as a student, but as a professor as well. He taught in the English Department from 1969-2006. He served a short stint as department chair but hated the administrative nature of the job and how much it encroached on his ability to instruct. He is considered a Professor Emeritus and has been asked to pick up an odd class to teach here or there every semester since he retired, even though he's turned it down. He doesn't rule out the possibility of returning part time in the future.
