Appearance

Brady is tall and dark and very obviously Latino. He keeps his hair short so he doesn’t get hair in the things he makes. As he works with people in both professional and personal settings he does his best to look good. He keeps himself in top physical condition by working out at the local gym. At the bakery he wears the bakery uniform, a white jumpsuit bearing the bakery name. At home he favors jeans and polo shirts. He has one good suit that he wears when he has too, such as at Mass or when delivering wedding cakes.

Personality

Brady is an interesting mix of opposites, he is a perfectionist when he is at work, but his personal life is a mess. While he is fine in group social settings or when dealing with customers, he is not as open in intimate settings, preferring instead to hear about the accomplishments of others. He is a really caring and giving person however, and often donates his talents and products to various local causes. He is a happy person, always with a smile and a kind word, and a double fudge chocolate brownie for those who need it. Brady is known among his friends for his sense of humor and his eerie calm under pressure.

However, Brady is intensely bitter about his ex-wife and he hides it successfully from his son, answering all his questions about why Mommy doesn't want him honestly. However, sometimes not dealing with the grief of his sister's death and the pain inflicted on Manuel by his mother causes him to explode for no reason.

Personal History

Brady was born to Maria and Edgar Hernandez who owned a small farm on the outskirts of Pleasant Point. He was the older of the two children his parents would have, his sister Samantha was born a year later. Growing up, the two were very close. He was also close friends with Tim Jenkins and Adela Martinez, although he was closer to Adela than to Tim. He lost contact with both of them after they moved to Mexico. While in high school, Brady worked at the Department store, the only store that would hire a poor Latino from the wrong side of the city. After graduating high school with highest honors, Brady went to the Yale Business School where he majored in finance. He worked nights in a bakery in Hartford where he learned the art of being a great pastry chef. He lost contact with his sister Sam until two years after he graduated, when the death of his parents forced him to return home. The siblings parted on strained terms, Samantha never understanding why Brady didn’t want to come home.

After returning to Hartford, Brady threw himself into his work. It was at his work, for one of Connecticut’s largest insurance companies that he met Bree. Brady had always preferred hanging out with men and had been uncomfortable around women. Not knowing exactly why, he decided to change that, and several months later the two were married. It was not a happy marriage however. After their lavish honeymoon, during which Brady’s son Manuel was conceived, the two fought often over two issues, money and sex. Brady felt Bree spent too much money; Bree felt Brady didn’t give her enough sex.

A year later, while on a business trip to San Francisco, something would occur that would change the way Brady lived his life. It happened one rainy day when Brady found himself at bar in the wrong end of the Castro district, there he met a man. The next day, after a night of the best sex of his life, Brady would finally understand what had been missing, and accept his sexuality. Returning home to Hartford, he found a letter from Bree, asking him for a divorce, which he willingly gave her.

After a lengthy custody battle, Brady would win custody of Manuel. Brady discovered that the life of a single father, and a successful executive were far too stressful. The result was a heart attack that would have sidelined him, had his sister Sam not come to help him. After months of rehabilitation and an agreement to lighten his workload, Brady’s life returned to normal. The normalcy would be fleeting however.

Three years after she left, Brady received a certified letter from a lawyer in Pleasant Port. The news it contained almost gave him another heart attack. His sister had been found dead in a hotel room outside of Pleasant Point. She had been on her way back from visiting friends in a nearby town, when her heart, the bane of the Hernandez family, beat its last. He was now the inheritor of not only his parents’ farm, which was quickly sold for a tidy profit, but also the bakery, which according to the letter, did a brisk business. Wanting a slower pace of life for himself and his son, now five, he moved to Pleasant Point, bought the house on Salem Road and began to improve the bakery.
