Personality

• In many ways he’s the same person that he was before even his children were born.
• Quiet and rather timid, he can seem to be cold and harsh.
• However, this is far from the truth.  He doesn’t really know how to express emotion and discuss his feelings, but he doesn’t believe that doing so is really necessary.
• He usually shows his wife and children that he loves them without having to say the words.
• Bernard is different when it comes to his grandchildren.  Despite himself, he is a softy and is particularly prone to spoiling them.
• Can be deemed as a bit of a grump. Is rather set in his ways and hates change.
• Once he had a mind like a steel trap, but has grown absent minded with age.  Despite the concerns of others, he flatly refuses to go to the doctor and be tested for it.

Personal History

• Youngest of four.
• Grew up in Pleasant Port.
• Began working at the bank during high school. After graduation, he began working there full time.
• Met Judy after high school.
• They got married in 1973 after they found out that she was pregnant.  They lost the child, who thy had named Arthur, something which Bernard is never willing to talk about it, even with his wife.
• When Vicky and Martin were born he tried to use them to replace the lost one, but it didn’t work.
• Met Ryan when he moved to Pleasant Port for Vicky.  Initially took a disliking to him, but gradually warmed up to his son-in-law, especially as it became clear that he was the only one who didn’t like him.
• Met Patricia while she was in high school with Martin.  Thought she was a bit of an idiot, but wasn’t really surprised when his son began pursuing her.  Was surprised when the two got married, while Bernard doesn’t think the relationship will last and still has a low opinion of Patricia’s intelligence, he fears the day that his son hurts her.
