When it comes to looks, Ben got the best his handsome family had to offer. His hair is cut short with a dark brown hue to it, and his eyes share a similar dark brown color. His features are very strong and masculine and give him a misleading bad-boy look. Sometimes scruffy and sometimes clean shaven, Ben's face is generally easy to read. Growing up, it was almost impossible for him to disguise his emotions, but now he has gotten much better at concealing his facial expressions. Standing relatively tall at 5'11", Ben's toned body is kept in very nice physical condition from frequent trips to the gym.
To the outside world, Ben is one of the trendiest and well dressed young men you could come across. Always seen looking his best, he knows how to dress for every occasion. But what people don't see is how Ben dresses at home. If he puts on anything more than underwear, it's generally an old t-shirt or dress shirt with holey jeans or cut off shorts, and much of the time it's not even both. Deep down he finds the fashion industry a bit too shallow for his taste, but due to his upbringing and narcissism, he finds it important to dress well in public and be seen as a polished individual.

Personality
Most people would consider Ben to be a shy individual. He usually keeps to himself and stays away from large crowds if at all possible. While this is partially true, he knows how to have a good time and can sometimes be the life of the party. Warming up to people may take some time for Ben, but his good friends know how fun and spontaneous he can really be. Some people mistake his preference to abstain from crowds and people as snobbishness or aloofness, but really, it's just a preference to keep to himself.
Even with such a shy personality, Ben contradicts himself in a few ways. First of all, Ben often makes a great leader. Coming from the background he does, he knows how important it is for someone to step up and take charge in a group and can easily get past his bashful temperament. This helped out in high school and college when group work was sometimes necessary, but now it mostly leaves him as a more decisive person than most. He's not afraid to say what he thinks and often does so, even if it might lead to confrontation. Still, he knows when to speak and when not to.
Also negating his shy side, Ben loves to be looked at and is rather narcissistic. He knows he is attractive and looks better than most other males out there. With this knowledge in mind, Ben has a certain cockiness about his appearance. Walking down the street, he likes to think that people take notice of him, even though they usually don't. His love for NYC and dressing up when in public ultimately stems from this. It's hard for Ben to leave the house poorly put together, and if it does happen, it usually means that something is wrong in Ben's life. Those who know him well can actually read into his feelings based on the caliber of his clothing that day.
Being a former art major, Ben is a rather creative and dreamy individual, often getting lost in his own mind. More so, he enjoys abstract concepts and anything that defies traditional standards. Challenging himself to explore his ideas and beliefs is more than just a hobby for Ben. He is constantly reading books on religion, politics, and philosophy, always questioning what he truly believes.
Personal History
Growing up in Pleasant Port was nothing short of perfection for Ben Stovolt and his younger brother Spencer. His parents were prominent figures in the local community. His father became mayor when Ben was 7 and his mother was just as involved in the town as her politician husband, working with charities, helping at church, and becoming president of the school board. Not only was Ben's family well-known; they were very wealthy. Ben's grandfather, Kevin's dad, had made a fortune in real estate during the 1950s. After the his father's death in the 80s, Kevin sold the company for a huge profit and left the family with a small fortune that would last a few generations.
When Ben was 11, his life changed dramatically. Shortly after his birthday, a terrible car crash claimed the lives of both his father and his mother. A drunk driver ran a red light and hit the vehicle they were traveling in, killing them both instantly. As dictated by their wills, Ben and Spencer moved across town to live with his aunt and uncle.
Pleasant Port didn't seem so pleasant after that. High school was a nightmare for Ben as he became a stereotypical angry teenager. He didn't get along with Shelley or Harlan, and he couldn't run from the fact that everyone felt sorry for his loss. Disappearing into the crowd was all he really wanted, but it was never an option. Eventually, Ben asked his aunt and uncle if he could take their last name. At first, they were rather hesitant. They had already adopted the boys and didn't want either of them to lose any part of their parents. But Ben insisted he would feel more like a part of the Sutton family if he shared their last name. Finally, after much consideration, Ben was granted their last name and became Ben Sutton. For Ben, it made getting over the death of his parents a little easier. Slowly, the community stopped seeing him as poor Ben who lost his parents and started seeing him as a young man moving on with his life.
Like all respectable kids of his generation, Ben went on to college. Being the artist he was in high school, he subsequently became an art major. As hard as he might try, he could not get into the college scene. Dropping out was always on his mind, but Shelley insisted that it would only be a waste of money. Moving out of his apartment after the completion of his Junior year, he decided he was not coming back for another year. Instead of moving back home with Shelley and Harlan, Ben moved into an apartment in Pleasant Port and began working at Square Books. He met Emily at Square books who became a good friend of his and introduced him to her brother, Robert. After a long period of questioning, Ben finally told Robert how he felt and the two of them began a relationship. They've finally moved in together and Ben is very happy.

 |
Micah and Ben grew up together in Pleasant Port. During Ben's high school years, he didn't particularly have many 'friends' but he and Micah got along, as well as Ben got along with anyone during that time. Now that Micah and Ben seem to have gotten their lives together, the two of them have become real friends. Given their personalities, they are an interesting pair when you get them together, particularly when they get to shopping. |

Lilianna is the new owner of Square Books. Ben is steadily getting used to her. He misses Emily for sure but has realized that Lily is a sweetheart and wonderful to work for. She was very understanding with the amount of time that Ben took off to help Spencer. She hasn't gotten past Ben's walls yet but he does like her and adores her daughter. |
 |
Emily Gray Emily was Ben's boss at Square Books. The two were very close and became even closer when Robert and Ben started dating. Emily rather unexpectedly moved out of town and that was pretty hard on Ben. |

George knows Ben mostly because of his parents. He has always known Ben as Kevin & Laura's kid and will never think of him any other way. He doesn't even recognize Ben's aunt and uncle as part of his family, choosing to act as if they don't exist because they aren't the type of family that his would be associated with. George even still refers to Ben as Ben Stovolt, continually thinking of him as a part of a life that Ben doesn't really think of any more. |
 |
Nathan is someone that Ben has known his whole life. Their families were always in the same circle when Ben was a kid and Ben feels like the Covingtons are a few of the people who have never changed their perception of him. Nathan, like his father, still calls Ben by his parents last name. They interact around town at the gym and whenever they see each other and are civil. Although they are not friends, Nathan still knows more about Ben than some of his friends might, knowing about his parents and how his life was before they died and knowing the extent of his family fortune. |

Maggie Felix- Maggie and Ben grew up together. They have been best friends for as long as anyone can remember. When they were 10, Ben rescued Clive, Maggie's brother, from some bullies, thus solidifying their friendship. After spending most of high school and college together, the two were close. Maggie left town but they still keep in relatively close contact. |
|
Jane babysat Ben when he was younger. She was one of the few people he talked to about his parents death after it happened. He didn't say much but he said more to her than to most others about it all. He was still pretty young when she left town so he hasn't kept in touch with her or anything. |

Myers-Briggs Typology
Ben is: ISTJ
Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging
ISTJs are quiet and reserved individuals who are interested in security and peaceful living. They have a strongly-felt internal sense of duty, which lends them a serious air and the motivation to follow through on tasks. Organized and methodical in their approach, they can generally succeed at any task which they undertake.
ISTJs are very loyal, faithful, and dependable. They place great importance on honesty and integrity. They are "good citizens" who can be depended on to do the right thing for their families and communities. While they generally take things very seriously, they also usually have an offbeat sense of humor and can be a lot of fun - especially at family or work-related gatherings.
The ISTJ is extremely dependable on following through with things which he or she has promised. For this reason, they sometimes get more and more work piled on them. Because the ISTJ has such a strong sense of duty, they may have a difficult time saying "no" when they are given more work than they can reasonably handle. For this reason, the ISTJ often works long hours, and may be unwittingly taken advantage of.
The ISTJ will work for long periods of time and put tremendous amounts of energy into doing any task which they see as important to fulfilling a goal. However, they will resist putting energy into things which don't make sense to them, or for which they can't see a practical application. They prefer to work alone, but work well in teams when the situation demands it. They like to be accountable for their actions, and enjoy being in positions of authority. The ISTJ has little use for theory or abstract thinking, unless the practical application is clear.
ISTJs are likely to be uncomfortable expressing affection and emotion to others. However, their strong sense of duty and the ability to see what needs to be done in any situation usually allows them to overcome their natural reservations, and they are usually quite supporting and caring individuals with the people that they love. Once the ISTJ realizes the emotional needs of those who are close to them, they put forth effort to meet those needs.
ISTJs usually have a great sense of space and function, and artistic appreciation. Their homes are likely to be tastefully furnished and immaculately maintained. They are acutely aware of their senses, and want to be in surroundings which fit their need for structure, order, and beauty.
