Personality
Gus is one of those guys with some sort of energy about him that people often can’t help but be drawn to him. This feeds right into the whole ‘small town barber knows everyone’s secrets’ image. He exudes a feeling of comfort that draws people in and makes him incredibly easy to talk to. He has an addictive personality, which has led him down the path of alcohol before which has now been replaced by relationships. His transferring of this addictive feelings into his relationships leads him to being a very loyal friend. He is passionate which is something that drew him and Kyra together. Their relationship is rather volatile, full of ups and downs but they’re both completely in love with each other. They’re quick to argue but in the end never mean anything by any of it.
Having as much energy as he does often leaves Gus looking for outlets for his energy. He has tried in recent years to get involved around town and can often be seen jogging and being generally active. He has even gotten involved in the little kids baseball league as a coach. He can be seen at most social events around town and has a good memory for faces. His smoothness in social interactions is something he has carried over from his time working LA. Many people see Gus as being a very flirtatious guy but it doesn’t go beyond innocent flirting, he has never cheated on Kyra and is hopelessly in love with her.

Personal History
Gus’s family moved to Pleasant Port from Los Angeles, California when he was 13. He went back to UCLA for college, and lived there for a while, working as a talent agent. While in LA, at the age of 27, he married Collette, a model. He and Collette were married for 2 years. In typical LA fashion, the relationship fell apart and they got a divorce. He got heavy into alcohol for a few years, really getting into the LA scene. This was part of the downfall of his marriage. He and Collette still keep in touch and are friendly as both have gotten to better places in their lives.
Gus’s parents convinced him to move back to Pleasant Port and start attending AA meetings. He’s been back in Pleasant Port for 7 years and had been fully sober for 6 of them. The barbershop had previous been owned by a close friend of the family. For the first year that Gus was trying to get sober, he worked at the barbershop, learning from the owner how to cut hair. The owner moved out of town 4 years ago and Gus stepped in and bought it with a loan from his parents. He is paying his parents back as the barbershop continues to do well.
Although it’s not what he imagined himself ever doing, he actually has quite a talent for haircutting. He met his wife, Kyra, while visiting college friends in Boston 5 years ago. They carried on a long distance relationship for a few years before she moved to Pleasant Port 3 years ago. They’ve been married for a year. Kyra got pregnant in the winter and although both were concerned about health, they were very encouraged when Kyra had come full term with the baby. When the baby was a stillborn, it was very hard for both of them. Their relationship has survived but something that was lost was a bit of Gus's spark and his sobriety. Jason has been very supportive and helped Gus and gotten him back into AA and Gus is on his way back up, staying sober and attending a lot of meetings but he still has work to do and is not quite back to his old self.
He’s the main barber there. It’s more like an old school barbershop. He’s not interested in the frills of a salon. He has loyal customers and makes a lot of connections with people as they sit in his chair.

When Gus moved to Pleasant Port in the end of middle school, Jason and he quickly became best friends. They shared a common interest in many sports and were on a lot of teams together. When Gus left for college and Jason stayed in PP, their relationship did change but it did not end. They kept in relatively constant contact in the years that Gus lived in LA and quickly fell back into the routine of being best friends when Gus moved back to town. Gus’s parents even enlisted Jason to go out to LA to help Gus get himself together and move back and get sober.
Luke and Gus went to high school together. They didn't necessarily run in the same circles as Gus was more sporty and popular and Luke avoided that stuff like the plague but they often partied together, drinking and smoking together. They shared a common bond in being some of the 'bad' kids around the school. They lost touch when Gus went away to UCLA and just reconnected when Luke came into Diller's for a haircut.
Alex came in to Diller's for a haircut and over the years, he and Gus have developed a friendship. First it was just conversations while Gus was cutting Alex's hair but it has developed into a more stable friendship. The two share an interest in some sports so they often get together for a pick up game of basketball or to run together.
Other Characters talk about Gus
Christopher Miller: "Gus makes getting your haircut more bearable. It's not just a haircut, it's a chance to have a great conversation."
Kyra Henry: "Gus is the man every woman wants. Sweet, kind, giving but willing to stand up for himself. I love to death."
Jason Styles: "Gus is my best friend. The guy is the most fun to have around and will help you out in any situation...just as long as he's in control of himself."

ESFPs live in the world of people possibilities. They love people and new experiences. They are lively and fun, and enjoy being the center of attention. They live in the here-and-now, and relish excitement and drama in their lives.
ESFPs have very strong inter-personal skills, and may find themselves in the role of the peacemaker frequently. Since they make decisions by using their personal values, they are usually very sympathetic and concerned for other people's well-being. They're usually quite generous and warm. They are very observant about other people, and seem to sense what is wrong with someone before others might, responding warmly with a solution to a practical need. They might not be the best advice-givers in the world, because they dislike theory and future-planning, but they are great for giving practical care.
ESFP is definitely a spontaneous, optimistic individual. They love to have fun. If the ESFP has not developed their Thinking side by giving consideration to rational thought processing, they tend to become over-indulgent, and place more importance on immediate sensation and gratification than on their duties and obligations. They may also avoid looking at long-term consequences of their actions.
For the ESFP, the entire world is a stage. They love to be the center of attention and perform for people. They're constantly putting on a show for others to entertain them and make them happy. They enjoy stimulating other people's senses, and are extremely good at it. They would love nothing more than for life to be a continual party, in which they play the role of the fun-loving host.
ESFPs love people, and everybody loves an ESFP. One of their greatest gifts is their general acceptance of everyone. They are upbeat and enthusiastic, and genuinely like almost everybody. An ESFP is unfailingly warm and generous with their friends, and they generally treat everyone as a friend. However, once crosesed, an ESFP is likely to make a very strong and stubborn judgment against the person who crossed them. They are capable of deep dislike in such a situation.
The ESFP is a great team player. He or she is not likely to create any problems or fuss, and is likely to create the most fun environment possible for getting the task done. ESFPs will do best in careers in which they are able to use their excellent people skills, along with their abilities to meld ideas into structured formats.
ESFPs usually like to feel strongly bonded with other people, and have a connection with animals and small children that is not found in most other types. They're likely to have a strong appreciation for the beauties of nature as well.
The ESFP has a tremendous love for life, and knows how to have fun. They like to bring others along on their fun-rides, and are typically a lot of fun to be with. They're flexible, adaptable, genuinely interested in people, and usually kind-hearted. They have a special ability to get a lot of fun out of life, but they need to watch out for the pitfalls associated with living entirely in the moment.
