Alex’s appearance is very important to him. He has a thin face accented by his intense blue eyes and a tendency to not shave. The length of Alex's hair varies; for a long time he kept it longish, although just before his one month anniversary with Jackie he cut it. Presently it is shorter, and he's grown a bit of a goatee. His build is average, with an average complexion. Sometimes he’s tanned, but usually the skin that isn’t covered in tattoos is a bit on the pale side. While he isn’t overtly muscular, his body is nicely toned.
Alex usually wears a short sleeved or sleeveless t-shirt underneath an unbuttoned dress shirt. He prefers to wear dark colours; black, navy blue, and maroon are his favourites. While he does on occasion wear light blues or white, he hates yellows, oranges, and light shades of red. Usually Alex rolls his sleeves up past his elbows, showing off the lower portion of his sleeves. Attached to a belt loop he keeps a wooden rosary, the crucifix of which is usually placed in his pocket. Around his neck he wears a silver crucifix which he usually keeps tucked into his shirt.

Personality
Alex is an extremely passionate and fun loving man. When he’s talking about something or teaching something he gets so engrossed that it becomes hard not to follow along with his words. Alex believes that people work best in relaxed environments, and as a result he tries to live his life with as few rules as possible – which is ironic, given that he is a devote Catholic. He follows the majority of the teachings of the church very strictly. Aside from the teachings of the Church, Alex does believe in living in a relaxed environment. He figures that as long as one treats others with respect, uses common sense, and follows the law, they’re set for life. It is his belief that too many rules simply create hostility and encourage people to violate and break the rules that they are presented with.
Alex’ faith is extremely important to him. While he rebelled against the Church and it’s teachings as a small child, as he grew older he really began to appreciate it. Now it’s a constant in his life, something that has been with him throughout his travels, and helped guide him through his divorce. Alex is very devote in his faith and can often be found praying to St. Patrick. His love for history comes almost as a direct result of his Catholic upbringing. As the result of this, his passion and devotion towards the study of history is equal to his faith in his religion. He is constantly trying to find the truth about the past, be it relating to a religious matter or a non-religious one.
The one thing that takes priority above both his religion and his studies is his son, Connor. While it can be said that he has a love for life and in the past was known for having reckless behaviour, Alex knows that his son looks up to him and he tries to do what he can to be a good example for him. He loves Connor very much, and, knowing the mistakes that he has made in his life, prays that he will grow up to be a better person than he is. As a parent, Alex finds himself constantly doubting everything he does, his inability to find answers often bothering him to no end. The questions and problems that his son presents him with are ones that he himself could never think of, and he struggles to keep up with him.
Alex’s divorce was hard on him. It wasn’t so much the end of the relationship that bothered him – in his mind, his relationship with Ricky had ended years before – but rather that he felt like he had failed both her and God. Alex knew of Ricky’s flaws when he married her, and in failing to change her, he felt like he had failed at providing for her. In Alex’s mind, Ricky didn’t cheat on him because she was a horrible person, but rather because she was an insecure person and he was unable to provide her with the love that she needed. At the same time, Alex feels like he made a vow before God that he was unable to keep. While he neither regrets the vow nor breaking it, he still bears a burden because of it. He hopes that when his time comes up, he will be judged with understanding.

His Timeline
June 28, 1971, in Rath Cairn, a Gaetaht (Irish speaking) town to the north of Dublin, Ireland, Alsandair Stone was born. He was the youngest of 5 children, all sons. Living in an Irish speaking town, he didn't begin learning English until he was 9, and to this day he still speaks in a heavy Irish accent and occasionally slips back to his native tongue.
When he was 18, he moved to Dublin for university and began to go by Alexander, or Alex, an English variation of his birth name. Two of his brothers, Patrick and Bryun, were already living there, having opened up a pub several years previously. Thinking, briefly, that he might follow in another brother (Seamus)’s footsteps and become a priest, Alex majored in religion. It was in his first year that he met Ricky Fayzed. Ricky was a non-practicing Protestant girl from America and Alex fell for her almost instantly. Gone were all thoughts of becoming a priest.
The summer after Alex completed his degree, he and Ricky decided to move to the United States. While Ricky’s family lived in New Mexico, she wasn’t really inclined to return there. Instead they moved to Fairfield, Connecticut. Alex had been accepted into a school there, Sacred Heart University, and it was close to the homes of Alex’s American friends.
Alex and Ricky had a very passionate relationship that seemed to be constantly on the rocks. Regularly they appeared to break up, only to make up later that week. Whenever they were fighting, if Alex could get away from work or school he would visit Pleasant Port. It didn’t take him long to fall in love with the town and decide that when he had kids, it would be there. During this time, Ricky frequently cheated on Alex, always leading him to believe that they were one night stands and she was doing so simply because she was afraid of being alone.
The two married Feburary 14, 1998. Their wedding was held in Ireland as Alex wanted to be married in the church that he had grown up in. His best man was his brother Bryun, his groomsmen were his brothers Liam and Patrick, his friends from Pleasant Port JJ Sullivan and Mike Fitzgerald, his brother Seamus officiated the wedding. In the week before the wedding, Ricky confessed to having had 19 serious affairs since she began dating Alex, but, when she promised that it wouldn’t happen again, Alex decided to look past it. Alex’s parents – who had hated Ricky since the moment they met her – quickly decided that they disliked JJ and Mike.
Shortly after marrying, Alex legally changed his name from Alsandair to Alexander. A year later he became a naturalized citizen of although he also kept his Irish citizenship.
Two years later, having obtained his teaching degree, the couple moved to Pleasant Port where, that summer, they had a son, Connor. Against Ricky's wishes, Alex automatically had the boy's birth entered into the Foreign Births Entry Book so that he would have Irish citizenship. Alex taught at the high school while Ricky worked in Maureen Brinkeroff’s store. For the first time in their relationship, Alex and Ricky appeared sincerely happy and weren’t regularly fighting. However, the fights that they did have were far more serious than they had been in the past; the two couldn’t seem to agree on a single thing relating to how to raise their son, the biggest being his religion.
After one such fight, two years after Connor was born, Alex decided to go out with the boys. He got together with JJ although they couldn’t get a hold of Mike. The next morning, after finding himself sleeping under a pool table that JJ was on, Alex returned home with his friend.
The image of Mike standing in Alex’s kitchen, frying eggs in his boxers is permanently burnt into Alex’s memory. JJ held Alex back and tried to play the peace keeper. Soon Ricky appeared – as scantily clad as her lover. The shouting match that followed quickly woke Connor, causing Alex to immediately become docile. He picked up his son and, followed by JJ and a still angry Ricky, he walked out of the house. Alex had suspected, for some time, that she had been having an affair, but he had never suspected that it would be with one of his friends. To make matters worse, he didn’t think he’d be able to face anyone in town after the event had he not divorced her.
For the next week, Alex and Connor stayed with Maureen and her husband, avoiding Ricky and Mike. Finally, Alex calmed slightly and agreed that it would be best to let Connor live in his home. Giving his son to Ricky, Alex packed his bags. The next day, he filed for divorce.
The divorce that followed was drawn out. While Alex was able to keep his home, which had been a wedding present from his parents and didn’t have to pay alimony he did loose Connor. Ricky and Connor moved to New Mexico, living temporarily with her mother before moving in with Mike who had followed them.
Alex stayed in Pleasant Port after the divorce because he had made a home there. He didn’t want to restart again.
Briefly after his divorce, he dated Maggie Felix, however the relationship didn't last. In January, 2007, he began dating Jackie Sanders. Despite some problems, the two are still going strong and are very happy together. In August, 2007, Alex took Jackie and his son to Ireland for a week, where he introduced her to his family. When they got back, he asked her to move in with him. At the end of October she went to visit her sister in California. In the weeks to follow, Alex began spending more time with Amy Salinger, working on developing a course for the college for the Winter semester. After a night of drinks to celebrate the course being accepted Alex realized that he might have feelings for Amy, however he simply attributed it to his missing Jackie. For Thanksgiving, he decided to fly out to California to surprise her, however in the end it was him who got surprised. Jackie ended the relationship, saying that she needed time to see the world and live life more before settling down with him. While she asked Alex to wait for her, in the month that followed he became more confused about his feelings about Amy. On Christmas Eve things came to a turning point when Amy kissed him. While Jackie returned to town briefly, trying to win Alex back, it didn't take long for him to dismiss her and turn to Amy. The two began a no strings attached sexual relationship that lasted until Amy began to pressure him to make a commitment to her. Now, Alex is single once more. While he misses asspects of being in a relationship, he rather likes the freedom from the drama that tends to come with them.

Connor is Alex's son, or rather the boy being raised as Alex's son. He was born while he and Ricky were still married, and for the first four years of the boy's life Alex assumed, without a doubt, that Connor was his. When it became known that Ricky had cheated on him Alex became aware of the fact that the boy might not be his son, although he has since chosen to act as if he is. Alex loves Connor and fears the day that he will be forced to determine whether or not he actually is his son.

Alex’s mother, Mary Rose, is a housewife who is very much in control of her household. Even though her boys are all grown and some have families of their own, she is still very much able to exert her influence over their lives. Alex is very much his mother’s baby, even though he feels like he’s let her down with the failure of his marriage. |

Seamus is the goody-two shoes of the family, with the strongest beliefs, all of which follow Church teachings, and the most likely to tattle on one of his brothers. The youngest of Alex’s brothers, Bryun, is a goof, although a family man at heart. Living, and running a pub with his brother, in Dublin, Bryun has been married for 10 years and has two daughters, one nine and the other six. |
Ricky Fayzed

Ricky is Alex's ex-wife. The two met in Dublin in the late 80s and began to date shortly after. Much of Alex's life was shaped by his relationship with her; he moved to America because of her, and for awhile cut off most ties with his family because of the relationship. Even though they were together for the better part of two decades, Ricky was never faithful to him, a fact that Alex was sometimes aware of and sometimes not. In the end, it was Ricky's affair with Mike that caused the end of their marriage.

Mike was one of Alex's best friends. They first met while Mike and JJ Sulivan were visiting Ireland; Alex saved the man's life when he walked into a bar wearing the wrong colours. While the two of them grew to be very different men, their friendship remained until Alex discovered that Mike was sleeping with Ricky. Despite this, Alex still says that Mike's a good guy, even though they aren't friends anymore.

In March, 2008, Amy pressed for further commitment from Alex, leading the two of them to end it.
