Agnes is a bubbly type who’s always eager to know people. She’s a mother at heart and willingly takes anyone into her home and treats them like they were her child.

Agnes is deeply religious and attends mass every week. She firmly believes in the teachings of the church and she is ashamed that her son has not been able to apply them to his life. She loved Celeste like a daughter and believed that the two of them should have made it work out, despite Johnny’s inability to give her children. While she is religious and enjoys the mass, she will also admit that the best part about going to church is the gossip. Agnes loves gossiping and likes to think that she knows some tidbit of information about everyone in town.

Even though she knows that Johnny is incapable of having children and Agnes firmly believes that John’s chances of settling down with someone who he loves decreases with every passing year, Agnes is still determined that eventually she will have grandchildren. She just needs to push Johnny in the right direction.

Personal History

Agnes grew up in Pleasant Port. Shortly after graduating she married her high school sweetheart, Steve Zimmerman. While they wanted to have kids right away, they had difficulties conceiving. When Agnes was 27 she finally succeeded in carrying a pregnancy to term and their son Jonathan was born.

Like his parents, Johnny moved out of his parent's home and got married soon after high school. As the years passed, Agnes struggled to support her son despite his failures. Her and Steve stood by him when he dropped out of school and throughout his marital problems. When she found out that Johnny was infertile, she wasn't surprised. After Johnny's divorce, Agnes' support for her son only grew, causing his attempted suicide to be a great shock.

The death of Steve was not as much of a shock. His health had been deteriorating for several years, and Agnes had been comforted by the thought that at least his suffering was over. Because of her own health problems, Johnny moved back in with his mother.

Family Background

	Steve was Agnes’ high school sweetheart and husband for most of her life. While they didn’t always have the perfect relationship, the two were happy with each other. Without Steve, Agnes is lonely, but she’s doesn’t think she could ever find a man in her life that would compare to Steve. Instead, she turns her focus onto finding someone who would be as perfect for her son as Steve was for her.
	Johnny is Agnes’ son. The two have a strained relationship, as they are complete opposites. They live together, but don’t understand each other. Agnes tries to encourage him to prosper in the world and fails to understand why he doesn’t make an effort. Even though she knows her son is infertile, she hasn’t given up on the hope for grandchildren and still sets him up with people.
	Celeste was Agnes’ daughter-in-law for nearly a decade. The two were close and have remained close in the years since Celeste and Johnny divorced. She considers Celeste to be a daughter and worries that Celeste’s children are the closest she’ll get to having grandchildren.
	Daniel is the husband of Agnes’ ex-daughter-in-law. Seeing Daniel’s wife as almost a daughter, she views Daniel as a son-in-law. She dots on him almost as much as she dots on her own son.

Relationships with other Characters

	Agnes knows Nicolette through the church. She thinks Nicolette is a nice young woman and would love to see her build a relationship with Johnny.
	Agnes knows Travis more as Nicolette’s son than anything else. She remembers seeing the boy at the church and worries that he’s straying, much like Johnny.
